Chicago Bears Chairman George McCaskey ‘bothered’ by fan reactions to losing season
The Chicago Bears have not had a winning season since 2018 when the team finished 12-4. That season was the second that the Bears finished a regular season with an over .500 record since George McCaskey became chairman of the organization in 2011.
The Bears had high expectations of being at least a bubble playoff team in 2024. Instead, the Bears finished with a 5-12 record. Fans chanted for the McCaskey’s to “sell the team” during Chicago’s 6-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17.

During his end-of-press conference, McCaskey was asked what he made of fans calling for his family to sell the Bears. McCaskey said he was “bothered” that Chicago fans sold tickets to Detroit Lions fans before a 34-17 loss at Solder Field on Dec. 22.
“Yeah, it’s it’s understandable,” McCaskey said of fans asking for his family to sell the Bears. “As (CEO) Kevin (Warren) mentioned, our fans are passionate. They’re incredibly frustrated. They wanted to make their voices heard. I was more bothered by the week before when Lions fans tried to take over Soldier Field and force the home team to go to a silent snap count.
“Fortunately, that didn’t happen. It’s understandable that Bears fans would sell their tickets because of the way the season has gone, and the challenge for us is to put a team on the field that Bears fans are so excited about they’re not interested in selling their tickets.”
McCaskey praised the Bears for making a positive impact on the Chicago community off the field but took responsibility for the team’s shortcomings on the field.
