BOLD PREDICTIONS: Will the Ravens Bounce Back vs Bears?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The Baltimore Ravens (1-5) look to snap a four-game skid when they host the Chicago Bears (4-2 and winners of four straight games) at M&T Bank Stadium (1 p.m. kickoff). Baltimore is coming off a Week 7 bye, while Chicago posted a 26-14 win over New Orleans last Sunday at home.

The Ravens are 3-4 all time vs. the Bears, including 2-2 under head coach John Harbaugh. Sunday marks the fourth-ever meeting between these clubs in Baltimore, where the Ravens are 2-1.

Following Sunday, the Ravens will play three straight road games, beginning with a Thursday Night Football appearance at Miami (Oct. 30). Baltimore then visits Minnesota (Nov. 9) and Cleveland (Nov. 16), before having three consecutive home games: vs. NYJ, vs. Cincinnati (Thanksgiving Night) & vs. Pittsburgh.

What Ravens team will show up? Will Lamar Jackson be engaged? How will the hamstring hold up? Will the ping pong table return? What about the cornhole boards?

These are the questions that inquiring minds want answered!

After a dramatic bye week that feels like a month, the Ravens will take the field as healthy as they’ve been in a few weeks. We’ve been hearing how the team has been fighting through a hangover stemming from their loss to the Bills on opening night. Well, boo-hoo. That said, I’m counting on them to snap TF out of it this week!

  • Lamar returns and delivers 2 TD passes, one each to Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman.
  • Derrick Henry rushes for 126 yards and 2 scores.
  • Kyle Hamilton’s second consecutive game in his unicorn role provides dividends. He gets a Superfecta – a strip sack with fumble recovery and later an INT.
  • How many times can I say that Mike Green gets his first NFL sack? Ok, I’ll say it one more time.
  • The Bears struggle to move the ball given key nicked up starters Cole Kmet (back), receiver DJ Moore (hip) and running back D’Andre Swift (groin). Consequently, Caleb Williams struggles and has a passer rating below 75.

The Ravens dub coupled with losses by the rest of the AFC North (yes the Jets will beat the Bengals) has people talking on Monday about a Ravens division title again. What a difference a week makes.

Timing is interesting on this one. I got the chance to watch the Bears in person a couple weeks ago on Monday Night Football, and while that game was a slop fest in the spitting rain, you can tell Chicago has some polish.

— I’d love to be able to tell you that the BYE is going to solve the defensive woes the Ravens have suffered, but the Bears receiving group is legit. Rome Odunze punishes his opposing CB for 75+ and a long TD. Once the defense starts to shift that direction, DJ Moore does the same.

— The Ravens may catch a break with D’Andre Swift trying to play through an injury, but if he’s healthy, he’ll be a problem up the middle. Once he’s juked Roquan Smith out of his shoes a couple of times, the Bears change pace and run Kyle Monangai in the red zone for another score.

— Derrick Henry bounces back in this one and does what a few of Chicago’s opponents haven’t done recently: exploiting a subpar rush defense. Henry goes for 100+ and a TD on the day.

The deciding factor is, of course, whether Lamar suits up or not. If I’m Lamar, I’m not pushing my return. In fact, I might sit just to send a message.

With Lamar’s status up in the air, this is a tough game to gauge.

Assuming he practices on Friday, it would be surprising if Lamar doesn’t play on Sunday.  He has been limited so far this week though, and if that continues on Friday, I think it’s more likely he sits than plays.

Unlike the last few weeks, everyone else appears ready to play. The Ravens have been ravaged by injuries and while the offense has looked bad without Lamar, the offense has also been missing key pieces, whether for the whole game or most of the game (see Ronnie Stanley).

The Bears force the most turnovers in the league, so a backup QB is likely to turn it over and that could be the difference.

On the other hand, if the Ravens didn’t turn it over two weeks ago against the Rams, there is a good chance they win that game and the Bears aren’t as good as the Rams.

Harbaugh is excellent coming off a bye and the players are saying a lot of things you want to hear, so I’m feeling optimistic with or without Lamar.  But they have to protect the ball!

The Bears have one of the worst run defenses in the league and i think the Ravens lean heavily on that.  Expect a big day from Henry.  My guess is Tyler Huntley would start if Lamar can’t go and if Lamar can play, I would  expect him to be in the pocket and not running around at all.

I’m willing to give this team one final chance to hurt me. With a mostly-healthy roster on the field, FINALLY, plus the benefit of the bye week and the added motivation of having their pride crushed for the last month-plus, I’ll say that, for one week at least, we get the 2025 Ravens we expected.

— Pat Ricard’s return is immediately felt, as the early-down rushing attack gets into gear. Derrick Henry is able to get through the LOS unscathed once again, and turns in a big day. 130+ yards and two touchdowns for King. Justice Hill adds another 40, Keaton Mitchell 30, and the Raven finally top 200 yards on the ground again, despite Lamar mostly staying in the pocket.

— Defensively, Alohi Gilman’s presence and expanded knowledge of the playbook is the catalyst to a big day. Kyle Hamilton is able to roam, and picks off Caleb Williams, returning it for a touchdown.

It doesn’t mean they’re about to win 11 in a row, but it looks good for one game, mercifully.

The Ravens have found themselves entering playoff mode, despite being in just Week 8. Coming off a much-needed bye last week, Baltimore appears to be entering healthy and mentally fresh, ahead of what is bound to be a crucial end of the season. Lamar Jackson, appearing on track to return, is huge as the Ravens offense has averaged just 6.5 ppg during Jackson’s absence. Getting the ground game going early will be key to the Ravens success on offense, as Chicago enters with the 28th-ranked run defense, allowing 137.7 yards per game. Utilizing their workhorse could lead to Baltimore getting their season back on track Sunday, against a Bears squad that’s rattled off four straight wins.

— Henry shows he’s still the guy, rushing for his second straight game over 100 yards, and 2 scores on the ground.

— Jackson has a quiet return, finishing with under 200 passing yards, and a lone touchdown.

–The Bears rookies put on a show, as both Luther Burden and Colston Loveland find the end zone.

— Roquan Smith shows Chicago what they passed on, picking up a sack and INT.

I really wanted to wait to see the injury report before this one; however, we got no new news about Lamar with him still being limited in practice. If the past is any indication, we know he isn’t likely to play until he is 100%.

This makes a prediction challenging because I don’t think there is any chance they beat the Bears without Lamar turning into Superman and saving the day, and the season for the team.

— Lamar does play…but not well.

— We finally get a Rashod Bateman sighting, as he hauls in a  touchdown.

— The defense really struggles against Ben Johnson’s offense and Caleb Williams has a field day throwing for 3+ touchdowns.

Even with Lamar on the field, I can’t see them winning this game.

The Bears basically end the ravens season before it could begin.

I’m not sure even the Ravens know if Lamar is playing on Sunday, but they desperately need him to. The Chicago Bears official X page posted a video of their players playing ping pong, mini basketball and other games, trolling the Ravens report that their games were removed from the facility. If that doesn’t add fuel to the fire I don’t know what will.

Coming off the bye will be the difference this week. Rested and having time to regroup will give them the edge in this game. A highly motivated Ravens will play harder than they have all season.

Vermont Raven

— The Ravens defense holds the Bears to 17 points or fewer.

— They also force 2 turnovers.

— Derrick Henry rushes for 100+ yards and a TD.

— Lamar Jackson plays but is limited and has no rush attempts.

— The Ravens squeak out a much needed victory.
