HOT TAKES: It’s Do or Die on Sunday for The Ravens

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The collaborative piece titled “What’s Wrong with The Ravens?” that The Sun put out earlier this week which intended to explain why the Ravens season has come undone so quickly, backfired in epic ways. Not only did they poorly explain the team’s woes, but they are also guilty of finger pointing, scapegoating, pour sourcing adding up to a piece that lacks credibility. For a publication that is seeking to reclaim subscribers lost to the Baltimore Banner, this article has probably had the opposite effect.

The piece, deemed “inaccurate” and “false” by head coach John Harbaugh, equates to nothing more than an embarrassment for The Sun and their coverage of the Ravens. Why subscribe to a source for Ravens news that has lost the trust of the team?

This season for The Sun, might be worse than the team it covers!

The Sun spoke with more than 25 sources in and around the Ravens to gain a better understanding of what’s really wrong with a team laden with All-Pro and Pro Bowl talent, led on offense by a two-time NFL Most Valuable Player in quarterback Lamar Jackson and a defense that just two seasons ago was among the league’s elite. ~ an excerpt from The Sun’s What’s Wrong with The Ravens?

It’s interesting that the article references 25 sources “in and around the Ravens” and this article is the best they could do? Instead of wondering “What’s Wrong with The Ravens?”, maybe The Sun should ask, “What’s Wrong with The Sun?”

Games People Play

And now that The Sun’s hit piece has reached the national stage, talking heads are poking fun at the team, it’s failures, questionable leadership and silly little games. This week, even the upcoming opponent is trolling the Ravens.

And in Other News

The Ravens have reportedly added Carl Lawson to their practice squad to hopefully spice up their pass rush. Maybe it’s more about scheme and coaching than it is personnel. Odafe Oweh is finding it easier to sack the quarterback in LA than he did in Baltimore.

But back to Lawson.

The 30-year-old vet enters his ninth season in the NFL, the last of which was spent in Dallas. During his 7 seasons played (he missed 2021 with an Achilles tear), Lawson has posted 32 sacks. In 15 games with the Cowboys in 2024, Lawson took down opposing QBs five times.

Provided he’s in shape, Lawson would appear to be a cost-effective acquisition. Unfortunately for the Ravens, that seems to be the only kind they’re interested in when it comes to boosting the pass rush. Maybe GM Eric DeCosta deserves some slack for the moment. Making a big splash before Sunday might not make much sense. If the Ravens lose to the Bears, the 2025 season is toast. No NFL team has ever started the season (1-6) and made it to the playoffs. That said, it is a bit curious why they waited so long to sign Lawson who is unlikely to provide much help on Sunday. Had they made the move a week earlier, Lawson could have spent time with the coaching staff, playbook and terminology.

Maybe that just makes too much sense during a season that doesn’t.

Meet The New Boss

There’s one man who runs things at The Castle. It’s not John Harbaugh, not Eric DeCosta and perhaps not even owner Steve Bisciotti. Nope. The new boss in town wears No. 8.

Everything about the Ravens revolves around Lamar Jackson. Their success, their salary cap, their attachment to young fans, their attractiveness to a national audience, their future, even jobs. Make no mistake about it, he, not Derrick Henry, is the king.

The team is even afraid to make any kind of positive statement about Lamar’s availability on Sunday. But from the looks of the betting line, Vegas thinks Lamar will play. How else do you rationalize a team on a four-game heater being a 6 ½ point underdog to a team crumbling from within and on a 4-game skid?

Hey, I wonder if Lamar will tell anyone that he’s sitting it out on Sunday before today’s injury report posts. You know, kind of like LeBron James.

If Lamar doesn’t dress, the Ravens will stick with another of EDC’s mistakes, Cooper Rush. Tell me again what they saw in Rush that fits the Ravens offense whose line requires run-for-your-life QB skills?

Hype Video

“We Fight” is the theme of the Ravens most recent hype video.

Really?

John will swear to it that he’s proud of his mighty men and the way they battle. I haven’t seen that yet this season. You? But maybe that will change on Sunday. Maybe they will fight.

But make no mistake about it. Sunday is more than just one game.

A season and a few careers are on the line.
