Through five games in the NHL season, the Chicago Blackhawks have been a much more competitive team. The young core has shown grit and toughness in every game, including Wednesday’s dominating 8-3 win over the St Louis Blues.

One of the biggest takeaways of the first five games is the much improved play of Connor Bedard.

Bedard has shown much improvement with his passing, stick handling, and overall physicality. Number 98 had three assists during Wednesdays win and now has 6 points in 5 games.

During the NHL on TNT’s postgame show, former NHL veteran Paul Bissonnette broke down Bedard’s much improved play. The NHL insider mentioned that last season he was very critical of Bedard, explaining that he was “swinging away” at times and looked sometimes “disinterested” and then went on to praise Bedard for how much better he has looked.

“His compete level is through the roof. He’s winning stick battles, puck battles.”

Bussonnette went on to praise the Hawks star for his overall toughness during Wednesdays game. Bedard has gotten way more physical and has done a much better standing up for himself and not backing down to opponents. The Hawks center has been jawing back at other players and it has been so much fun to watch.

Bedard has also shown great improvement on his passing, this was shown on Wednesday’s game with his three assists. It’s great to see the Blackhawks showing a lot of toughness and being competitive this early in the season. The future is very bright for our Blackhawks moving forward.
