NFL Power Rankings: Week Six

After five games, there are multiple surprises thus far. Our NFL Power Rankings break down the top ten, where the Jets stand, and a note on each team so far.

1. Detroit Lions 4-1
   The Lions have won four straight and head to KC to face a desperate team. This week will be a challenge for Detroit.
   Surprise: Jared Goff’s quarterback rating is 120.7, just off the all-time mark for a season. Goff and the offense were expected to play well, but he is playing historically well.
2. Philadelphia Eagles 4-1
   The Eagles’ huge ground game was halted by Denver. Philly needs to get more from its passing game to repeat as champs.
   Surprise: The Eagles are 30th in offense through five games. Only the Titans and Bengals gain fewer yards per game than Philadelphia.
3. Buffalo Bills 4-1
   The Bills lost their first at home to New England. Nobody expected the Bills to go undefeated, but losing at home to the Pats isn’t good.
   Surprise: The wide receivers are behind tight end Dalton Kincaid in receiving yards and touchdowns. Kincaid is a fine tight end, but Buffalo needs its wideouts to produce.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-1
   The Bucs traveled as far domestically as a team can fly and won in a difficult place for road teams. The Bucs now embark on a brutal two-game stretch that has them home for the 49ers and at Detroit.
   Surprise: Emeka Egbuka is picking up the slack for the injured Mike Evans. Egbuka is Tampa’s leading receiver and has five TD catches already.
5. San Francisco 49ers 4-1
   The Niners are one of the best-positioned teams to withstand an injury to their starting quarterback. As they get healthy, San Francisco should only play better.
   Surprise: Despite all the injuries, the Niners are top five in both offense and defense.
6. Indianapolis Colts 4-1
   The Colts are the league’s biggest surprise. If they can win at home this week against Arizona, then at the Chargers in two weeks, they match up with division leader Pittsburgh with a chance to start 7-1 and be in front for home-field advantage.
   Surprise: This is easy: Daniel Jones. Almost everyone gave up on Jones, who has thrown for the third-most yards so far and is the league’s eighth-best passer through five games.
7. Green Bay Packers 2-1-1
   The Packers get an extra week to fix a defense that let Dallas hang forty points.
   Surprise: Rashan Gary already has 4.5 sacks. He leads the Pack and is well ahead of his career-best pace.
8. Los Angeles Rams 3-2
   The Rams dropped a huge division game. Being −2 in turnovers was the difference.
   Surprise: Matthew Stafford leads the league in passing yards. The Rams figured to lean on their passing game, but few figured Stafford would be first in yards.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars 4-1
   The Jags stole one on Monday night and have won three straight.
   Surprise: Trevor Lawrence has five interceptions already, but the Jags still lead the league in turnover margin at +8. Kudos to the Jacksonville defense.
10. Pittsburgh 3-1
    What was expected to be a brutal fight for the AFC North is starting to look like a runaway.
    Surprise: Pittsburgh is second to last in rush yards per game (80). Rodgers needs more balance to keep the Steelers on track to win the division.

32. New York Jets 0-5
This is an all-time worst for the Jets. They have been near the bottom, but the Jets have never occupied the last spot in the power rankings. The Jets are the only winless team in the league.
