OTL: Lamar Jackson, Not Coaches, Ordered Removal of “Fun” from Locker Room
For the first time in what feels like years, things are looking up in Charm City. After an impressive Tyler Huntley-led victory over the previously surging Chicago Bears, the Ravens sit at 2-5 (yes, still not ideal) and two games back of the AFC North lead. Perhaps more importantly, their swagger is coming back:
The vibes on this team since the Houston game are night and day. This is the energy we’re accustomed to.
I’m starting to like the short week turn going into Miami. They need to maintain momentum & no better way than to play another game immediately. #Ravens #RavensFlock https://t.co/5rOdNUDbds
— Dev Panchwagh (@devpanchwagh) October 28, 2025
And, as Dev notes, they have the opportunity to continue building on momentum before really going on a run. Before thinking about that, though, let’s look back at how they’ve collected themselves.
First and foremost, getting healthy is key, and the team continues to do so (for the most part):
Ravens have everybody practicing today. Really good sign on a short week.
— Jeff Zrebiec (@jeffzrebiec) October 28, 2025
John Harbaugh: “I think it’s our first week all season where we’ve had all 53 guys out there practicing. It’s nice to see.”
— Sarah Ellison (@sgellison) October 28, 2025
I say “for the most part” for a few reasons. Obviously, there are some major caveats to Harbaugh’s statement that the full 53-man roster was available for the first time (most notably being the absence of Nnamdi Madubuike). Aside from that, the team did announce that DT Broderick Washington is headed for surgery.
Harbaugh said Broderick Washington will have surgery. He said it just came up and they’ll have more details in days ahead. Washington has been out with an ankle injury.
— Jeff Zrebiec (@jeffzrebiec) October 28, 2025
Still, a healthy Roquan Smith, Patrick Ricard, and a rested team seemed to help tremendously.
Alongside those improvements, the acquisition of S Alohi Gilman continues to unlock Kyle Hamilton and the secondary at-large. Hamilton made a few standout plays, while Nate Wiggins continued to show up clutch:
Chris Long:
“Did you see Kyle Hamilton picking Joe Thuney on third down? … Turn ‘em loose. Make him the guy in the box. He’s your best player. Make him effect every snap. … I swear to you, go watch that play. It’s one of the single-most athletic plays I see on the field on… https://t.co/Hvy35itcUH pic.twitter.com/Br4c9GDoNL

Kyle Hamilton is so good man pic.twitter.com/03cofE4O8A
— Yuri (@Yuri_Ravens) October 28, 2025
He’s the “star” defender. He’s the old school Will Linebacker. #RavensFlock https://t.co/2mhSBlLbTx
— Dennard Melton (@dennard13) October 27, 2025
Interesting tidbit on the #Ravens defense and Nate Wiggins#Ravens outside CBs typically play sides and dont move between LCB and RCB
In the first 4 weeks, Wiggins aligned LCB on 98% of his snaps
In the last 3 games, almost an even split between LCB and RCB#RavensFlock
— Cole Jackson (@ColeJacksonFB) October 28, 2025
Kyle Van Noy on Nate Wiggins:
“He’s turned into CB1 before our eyes. He’s really been playing at a high level all year. He should make the Pro Bowl and be in conversations for All-Pro for how well he’s played.” pic.twitter.com/ZX7lXoh2Pt
— Bobby Trosset (@bobbybaltim0re) October 27, 2025
Meanwhile, RB Keaton Mitchell was finally utilized more heavily, while RB Derrick Henry was relied upon in key situations:
“I thought he made a big statement… He proved to be ready for it.” Harbs on @_KeatonMitchell’s Week 8 performance pic.twitter.com/ogWZFvQ96s
— Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) October 27, 2025
When you have a guy like Derrick Henry on your team, you trust him in key situations to get the job done. It looks like the Ravens are finally doing that!
On both of his touchdowns, the Bears sold out to take the middle away, but the King was unstoppable, and he made them pay! pic.twitter.com/vHlI7sH3ZC
— Nic Mason (@British_Raven19) October 28, 2025
While Nic Mason’s post highlights how Henry helped close things out, he also helped maintain control of the game. This likely opened things up for Mitchell, as well, but most importantly helped Baltimore stay ahead of the sticks (something I wrote about last week):
The #Ravens offense averaged 6.8 yards per play on 1st down against the Bears on Sunday
#RavensFlock pic.twitter.com/AFioujPmY1
— SleeperRavens (@SleeperRavenss) October 28, 2025
With Tyler Huntley stepping in, keeping him in comfortable spots had to be a priority, even with the phenomenal performance he put on. The Ravens stayed out of tricky third-and-long situations, allowing Huntley to excel.
Jackson may say he had no doubt in Huntley’s ability, but the game flow certainly helped him out:
Lamar Jackson on what it was like watching Tyler Huntley lead the team to victory: “I got a thrill out of it. I was ecstatic on the sideline just to see my guy do what he do. I played against him in high school twice. Then I watched him in college as well … and he always did…
— Sarah Ellison (@sgellison) October 28, 2025
Finally, and maybe most nebulously, was the removal of what I’ll call “games” from the locker room. In somewhat surprising news, it was revealed that this was not, in fact, the work of HC John Harbaugh. Instead, it was Jackson who made the call:
Very happy to hear Lamar was behind this change. It was also good to see him so engaged with the earpiece in on Sunday.
Focus and desire to win are consistently evident.
And just to state the obvious, those are not traits of a player who is slowrolling his own return to the… https://t.co/RZi39dZwgb
— Ken McKusick (@FilmstudyRavens) October 28, 2025
Lamar Jackson was asked if it’s true that he was the one who wanted the games out of the locker room.
“Oh, yeah. I told Kenico, our head equipment guy, I told him to take out all the games – ping pong, turn the TVs off. And if we could’ve taken the TVs out, they would’ve been…
— Sarah Ellison (@sgellison) October 28, 2025
Lamar Jackson on his decision to have the games/activities removed from the #Ravens locker room:
: @Ravens pic.twitter.com/O6GfAJcezg
— Chris Cooper (@ChrisCooper_NFL) October 28, 2025
This really highlights Jackson’s mentality ahead of his return and for the remainder of the season. As he said on Tuesday, every game’s a must-win from here on out:
“Each and every game is going to be like a win or go home game.” pic.twitter.com/7f4HRKoWjt
— Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) October 28, 2025
Jackson: “I’ve got to focus on Miami. You can never overlook an opponent. It’s do or die now each and every week.” pic.twitter.com/AFlxWUrWpH
— Jeff Zrebiec (@jeffzrebiec) October 28, 2025
And for some in the media, that focus means trouble for upcoming opponents:
“It just keeps getting better… They are back to playing Ravens football… Blow-out on deck.”
⁰@Chris_Broussard loves that Lamar was the leader of T7 (the toy toss that transformed the tacklers): pic.twitter.com/OGSfhx9KjS— First Things First (@FTFonFS1) October 28, 2025
Of course, I don’t think an unthinkable Super Bowl run will be possible without reinforcements, which the Ravens are reportedly looking to make.
Harbaugh said he has regular dialogue with Eric DeCosta about trade possibilities.
— Jeff Zrebiec (@jeffzrebiec) October 28, 2025
With the trade deadline approaching, there’s a few routes the GM Eric DeCosta can take. In my eyes, the top priority needs to be the D-Line:
Paper thin on the DL. Short week.
Thinnest unit going into the year. Down their best player and a starter. Have to, HAVE TO find immediate and long term help. https://t.co/q4xvGhhANx
— Spencer Schultz (@ravens4dummies) October 28, 2025
For starters, how about a Calais Campbell reunion? The veteran continues to produce in Arizona, and would help both the run defense and pass rush:
Calais Campbell has 17 pressures and 3 sacks on 159 pass rush snaps this year.
For reference, that would lead the #Ravens pressure numbers by 4 (Travis Jones leads with 13) and sacks by 1 (Robinson and Madubuike have 2)
Would cost a late pick.
Just saying.#RavensFlock
— Cole Jackson (@ColeJacksonFB) October 28, 2025
If the team wants to make more of a splash, there’s a number of EDGE options available:
With the #Ravens just two games out of 1st in the AFCN, think it makes sense to pursue a trade acquisition that would bolster the front-7
MIA OLB Jaelen Phillips makes the most sense, 3-down edge on an expiring contract, well worth a third rd pick plus
While finally redeploying…
— Vasilis (@VasilisFiamata) October 28, 2025
Sources: Another name to watch on the trade front is #Giants EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux. He’s under contract for another year after this season, but some around the league have wondered whether he’s part of New York’s long-term plans and if he could become available with the Giants… pic.twitter.com/WO4ANH9GWQ

At the same time, the trenches are key on the offensive side, and while they’ve shown improvement, the names don’t instill too much confidence at the G position. That’s where Kevin Zeitler comes in:
Former Ravens Calais Campbell and Kevin Zeitler are two potential trade targets to watch for Baltimore ahead of the deadline, per @TheAthletic.
The Ravens reportedly nearly acquired Campbell from the Dolphins before last year’s trade deadline. pic.twitter.com/DlwitYI0NR
— Ravens Nation ð™‡ð™„ð™‘𙀠(@LIVERavenNation) October 28, 2025
I don’t expect Baltimore to mortgage the future too much, but theoretically, a combination of these is possible:
The Ravens can according to Spotrac trade for Q. Williams, K. Thibedoux, and K.Zeitler for a total cap hit of around 11M. Remind me how much cap room we have? You package M. Andrew’s in any of these deals you save another 3M.
— Spencer Alexander (@SpencerAlexan10) October 28, 2025
With that in mind, give me Campbell, Zeitler, and one of the EDGE guys. Onward!
