OTL: Ravens Start to Turn Things Around, But Can’t Afford a Setback
They’re not out of the woods yet, but with Sunday’s win, the path to escaping their predicament became just a little bit clearer.
“I don’t think Tyler could have played any better than that. That was one of those all-time great performances.”https://t.co/HzB4HSLSfC

There’s been no shortage of issues to this point in the season for Baltimore, and they’d taken a few ugly losses on the way to digging themselves a 1-5 hole entering the bye. In the absence of Lamar Jackson, there hasn’t been a lot to like on either side of the ball, but Tyler Huntley getting the start did a lot of good for the offense, especially in helping exploit Chicago’s porous run defense.
Keaton Mitchell averaged 10.8 yards per carry, and was an excellent complement to Derrick Henry. Hopefully Ravens continue to get the ball in his hands.

On defense, it’s clear that Baltimore is still chasing what they need to do in the secondary, but Nate Wiggins turned in a timely interception to redeem what was otherwise a rough outing for himself, and Mike Green recording his first career sack was a boost. Now, the Ravens have to try to ride that momentum and turn around on a short week to face Miami on the road. The Dolphins have had plenty of their own problems to start the season, but they just beat the brakes off the Falcons, so they can’t be overlooked.

Traditionally, Baltimore has been able to rack up the points against the Dolphins, and they enter Thursday’s matchup as a 7.5-point favorite at the time of this writing. However, the Dolphins got the better of Baltimore the last time these two faced off at Hard Rock, and the burst that Miami’s receivers have shown at times this year does give me pause with Baltimore’s unfortunate propensity to give up big plays this season. My confidence will be significantly higher if the Ravens can generate pressure on Tua, and, of course, if the Broward County native suits up under center for Baltimore.
Adam Schefter on Lamar Jackson:
“He is expected to go Thursday night against Miami. Then again, he was expected to go today, in John Harbaugh’s opinion a couple weeks ago and he didn’t. But I think they believe that he will be there Thursday night.”

Against all odds, Baltimore is somehow still only two games out of the lead in the AFC North. They treated this past Sunday like a must-win game and it paid dividends; now they need to do the same with the slate of games coming up against struggling opponents. They can’t get too far ahead of themselves because they still need help to climb back into the conversation for the division, and as a result, I’m sure that the message this week will be a similar aim for the Thursday Night matchup: you don’t have to make it look pretty, but you do have to find a way to win.
