The Chicago Bears entered Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals with a new pass rusher.

Second-year defensive end Austin Booker made an impact during his first appearances of season, recording one sack of quarterback Joe Burrow in the Bears 47-42 win over the Bengals in Week 9.

Unfortunately, Chicago had troubling news surface as the team exited the locker room at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati. Defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo left the locker room wearing a brace and crutches after suffering an injury on Sunday.

Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Odeyingbo sustained a torn Achilles and will not return for the remainder of the season.

“Sources: Bears standout edge Dayo Odeyingbo, a big-ticket signing in free agency, has torn his Achilles and is out for the season,” Rapoport posted on X Monday afternoon.

Odeyingbo recorded 21 tackles and one sack through his first eight games with the Bears. Chicago signed the 26-year-old pas rusher to a three-year, $48 million deal in March. However, Odeyingbo struggled to live up to the hype as someone who could rush the quarterback as an edge rusher.

Before Sunday’s game, the Bears had just 14 sacks. Chicago sacked Cincinnati quarterback Joe Flacco three times for 21 yards, bringing their total on the season to 17.

The Bears need help at defensive end

Dennis Allen's defense got the much needed defensive line pressure on Sunday when Montez Sweat and Dominique Robinson recorded sacks.

With Odeyingbo now gone for the rest of the season and fellow edge Dominique Robinson dealing with a high-ankle sprain, Bears general manager Ryan Poles will likely be looking for another pass rusher before the trade deadline on Tuesday afternoon.

At 5-3 and a game against the New York Giants in Week 10, the Bears are squarely in the playoff hunt before the trade deadline.
