Chicago Cubs ‘likely’ to handoff Kyle Tucker to the Dodgers waiting arms: Report

The Cubs made it pretty far, but ultimately came up short of the Milwaukee Brewers for both the NL Central and NLDS.
Frankly, Chicago’s management should be criticized for playing it too cautiously at the trade deadline. After trading for Tucker in the final year of his contract, the Cubs needed to be aggressive in adding pitching help and another bat for the playoffs.
The sting of the loss to the Brewers in the postseason will hurt even more when the news inevitably breaks that Tucker will not sign with Chicago. It’ll be hard for the Cubs to keep pace with the Los Angeles Dodgers without him.
The Cubs might even wind up handing Tucker off to the back-to-back World Series champs this offseason.

Per Jeff Passan and Jesse Rogers of ESPN, the Cubs are not “likely” to re-sign Tucker, and Los Angeles appears to be the top destination for right fielder.
“The Cubs are likely going to let Tucker walk while the Phillies haven’t closed the door on a reunion with Schwarber,” Rogers wrote. “Chicago has more budget constraints than Philadelphia, meaning the Cubs probably don’t want to tie up $35-40 million on one player.
“Somebody will be willing though, especially if Tucker can slide into a ready-made lineup — like the Dodgers’.”
When Tucker’s bat was hot this spring, the 28-year-old slugger was rumored to be looking at a new deal in the $400-600 million range. Passan thinks Tucker will eclipse $300 million, and the Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and Philadelphia Phillies could pay that price.

“Tucker falls in that interesting bucket where he will rightly demand a contract in excess of $300 million, but the number of teams willing to pay that will limit his options,” Passan wrote. “The Dodgers and Giants make sense, as do the Phillies. Schwarber, on the other hand, will have a bountiful market.”
Tucker made his fourth straight All-Star appearance in 2025. He finished the season batting .266 with 22 home runs and 73 RBI. He batted .259 in the postseason on seven hits to go along with one RBI and one home run in eight games.
The Cubs should be able to cover $300 million, but ownership doesn’t appear committed to the cause. That could spell a frustrating regression in 2026. And it will hurt Chicago fans even more if the Brewers continue to ascend with the roster they’ve built.
