On Sunday, the Golden State Warriors cruised to a 123 – 91 victory over the Chicago Bulls, giving Jimmy Butler an opportunity to face his former squad. After the matchup, Butler discovered that the Bulls have lost more contests in his absence than when he plays, according to Drew Stevens of The Bigs Media.

The Bulls won 276 games during Butler’s six seasons with the franchise, yet they have managed only 275 wins in the eight seasons since his departure.

“That’s a helluva stat,” said the Bulls 30th overall pick in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft.

Butler ended the game with 19 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. The win improved the Warriors to 13-12 on the season, though they have dropped six of their last ten matchups.

Meanwhile, the Bulls are struggling through a seven-game losing streak after an impressive 6-1 start to the year.

Through the season, Butler is putting up averages of 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game.

From 2011 to 2017, Butler suited up for the Bulls after Chicago selected him out of Marquette University. He worked his way from a reserve role into a full-time starter, grew into an All-Star, and helped guide the Bulls to the postseason in 2013.

In 2015, Butler agreed to a contract extension, but his frustration with the franchise kept building. By 2017, that tension reached a point where Chicago decided to move on, sending him to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a deal that brought Zach LaVine and Kris Dunn in.

A number of issues pushed Butler out of Chicago. Contract disagreements with management, frustration with the coaching staff, and concerns about his teammates’ dedication all played a part. Butler believed the organization was not paying him what he deserved.

Butler also called out Fred Hoiberg for what he viewed as a soft coaching approach, and he challenged several teammates for showing the same lack of intensity.

Those tensions eventually spilled into the locker room, as Butler often clashed with younger teammates over what he viewed as inconsistent standards and a lack of commitment to the team’s culture.

Golden State brought Butler in through a February trade with the Miami Heat, and he has steadily settled into a valued veteran role.
