Marcus Freeman expected to get interest from more NFL teams
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish aren’t going to the College Football Playoff, as their season ended by declining a bowl invitation. Now, the future of the program and head coach Marcus Freeman is the big storyline. Freeman has been mentioned as a candidate for the Michigan job, although that’s not likely. What is likely though is interest from NFL teams.
As the NFL hits the stretch run here in Week 15, more and more coaching rumors will be popping up. The latest comes from Dianna Russini of The Athletic on Saturday morning.
Russini mentions the Giants having interest in Freeman as a candidate BUT the bigger news is that other NFL teams should be interested in Freeman as well.
Multiple interest from NFL teams in Marcus Freeman
As Russini reports, it won’t be just the Giants showing interest. Instead, multiple other NFL organizations will have interest in Freeman as soon as the offseason begins.
Here is what she wrote on Saturday morning:
I also expect Freeman to garner interest from other NFL organizations. The 39-year-old has spent the past four years leading Notre Dame, taking the Irish to the national championship game last season. Last December, he agreed to a lucrative contract extension through 2030. And though he has never coached in the NFL, his leadership, people skills and ability to thrive in one of the most high-profile jobs in the country are what’s drawing the interest of general managers and owners.
Freeman is currently enjoying time off after another season at Notre Dame. But it’s clear he’s going to have to make a decision over the next month or so. With the interest being there from NFL teams, now might be the perfect time for him to head to the NFL as a coach.
Or he could stay at Notre Dame and attempt to chase a national title. Time will tell.
