Ben Johnson reveals major Chicago Bears offseason point of emphasis
The Chicago Bears arrived, in a lot of ways, ahead of schedule in 2025, thanks in large part to head coach Ben Johnson’s influence and quarterback Caleb Williams making major strides in his development.
And, while the Bears won the NFC North, barnstorming to the No. 2 seed, and coming an overtime loss shy of an NFC Championship Game appearance, there is still much work for general manager Ryan Poles, Johnson, and Chicago to do this offseason in order to prove this improvement isn’t just sustainable but the launching pad to become the team to beat in the division.
Ben Johnson calls out Chicago Bears wide receivers

When the Bears reconvene this spring to prepare for the 2026 season, the receiving corps might look a bit different.
There are already rumblings that veteran DJ Moore could be moved in an offseason trade, Luther Burden could take on an expanded role, Rome Odunze aims to take the next step, and there’s always the possibility that Poles and the Bears add another playmaker to Williams’ supporting cast during the NFL Draft, or free agency.
Regardless of who is on the receiving end of Williams’ passes, Johnson stresses that they must be better at actually catching them.
“When I think about being fundamentally sound, we have to do a better job catching the football next year,” Johnson told reporters last week. “And I can tell you right now, that’ll be a point of emphasis for us when they come back in the springtime.”

While Williams came up just short of being the first quaterback in Bears franchise history to pass for 4,000 yards (finishing with 3,942), he only completed 58.1 percent of his passes, and Chicago receivers dropped 29 passes this season, fifth-most in the NFL.
If the Bears’ offense is going to take the next step, and Williams is going to lead them a few steps further towards the Lombardi, Johnson is right, the receivers are going to need to do their part.
