Bulls’ Coby White embraces mental growth amid injuries and trade rumors
The first half of the season has not gone according to plan for Coby White or the Chicago Bulls. White opened the year sidelined with a calf injury, and just as he began to find a rhythm, the same issue resurfaced. On Dec. 29 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, White suffered another calf injury, creating an all too familiar setback and further disrupting both his momentum and the Bulls’ backcourt stability.
White exited in the second quarter and never returned as Chicago fell 136–101. He is now sidelined and scheduled to be reevaluated in one week. Speaking Friday ahead of the Bulls’ matchup with the Orlando Magic, White addressed his mindset during an injury-filled season, saying he views the adversity as an opportunity to grow mentally despite the ongoing setbacks.
“It’s hard for me to go through this, but I always look at it as a learning lesson.”

“You can say why me, but you can look around the league, there are guys that are in worse situations than me in terms of they come back and restrain it, they really restrain it, and they got to sit out even more time,” said the Bulls guard.

Coby White with the Chicago Bulls

Coby White has appeared in 16 games this season, putting up 19.2 points and 4.7 assists per night. That scoring mark stands as the second highest average of his career, trailing only last season, when he set a personal best by averaging 20.4 points per game during the 2024–25 campaign.
At the same time, trade chatter has followed the 25-year-old as the February 5 deadline approaches. League buzz has linked White to several teams exploring backcourt help, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, and Cleveland Cavaliers, all of whom have reportedly shown interest in a potential deal.

White is set to hit unrestricted free agency once the season ends, as he is playing out the final year of the three year, $36 million contract he signed with Chicago in 2023.
