Chicago Bears’ Darnell Wright breaks silence on hopes for new contract
Following an offseason revamp along the Chicago Bears‘ offensive line, tackle Darnell Wright was the constant and developed into a driving force up front.
Even after signing Drew Dalman and trading for Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, homegrown offensive tackle Darnell Wright remained an anchor along Chicago’s offensive line and a critical cog in the Bears’ success on offense this season.
Darnell Wright opens up on his Chicago Bears future
For the first time, Wright is eligible to sign a long-term contract extension, and the 24-year-old didn’t hold back when asked about his desire to do so.
Wright clearly wants to be in Chicago for the long-term.
“I would love to be on this team for my whole career,” Wright told reporters Monday, while cleaning out his locker at Halas Hall. “For sure. That would be great.”
Originally chosen by the Bears with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Wright has become a foundational piece along Chicago’s offensive line, key both to keeping Caleb Williams upright and opening up running lanes this season for backs D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai.
According to Pro Football Focus, Wright only allowed three sacks and three quarterback hits this season.
The Bears are going to need to make some difficult salary cap decisions this offseason, but the way that Wright’s play has steadily improved, securing his long-term future in Chicago could be a top priority for general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Ben Johnson to focus on in the months ahead.
