Chicago Bears HC Ben Johnson confused DJ Moore on interception: Report
During his end-of-season news conference on Wednesday, Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson took the blame for the miscommunication on the final offensive play against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night.

Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was intercepted on a pass targeted for wide receiver DJ Moore. Williams told reporters after the game he expected Moore to “flatten” his route, but the receiver went over top.
The interception allowed the Rams to march down the field and score a game-winning field goal in overtime, ending a spectacular season for Johnson in his first season as the Bears head coach.
Per Danny Parkins, a Bears team source told him that Moore was confused about his route on the play. The route concept was part of a new scheme from Johnson.
Moore didn’t give up on the route. He just didn’t know what he was supposed to do.
“One person with the team told me that it was not an effort issue on the last play, that it was also not quite a miscommunication, but like confusion,” Parkins said on 670 The Score. “It was a newer route concept that they had put in, and they were a little surprised by the coverage.
“And he (Moore) kind of slowed down out of confusion of exactly where he was supposed to take that route, which is, I think, speaks a little bit to why Ben Johnson put it on him today. Put it on himself today.”

DJ Moore might have played his final snap for the Chicago Bears

More News: Bears veteran warns team could see mass exodus in free agency
Parkins thought Moore should have told his side of the story instead of declining to talk to reporters.
“Obviously not a great moment for DJ Moore,” Parkins said. “I also don’t love that he skipped out on the media both right after the game and the next day. Like it would be nice for DJ Moore to give his version of events on the play that ended the season, given what he gets paid and given his veteran status on the team.”
Parkins doesn’t think Moore will return to the Bears next season.
With a strong receiving core of Coleson Loveland, Luther Burden III and Rome Odunze on the roster, Moore’s salary could be better spent building out the defense for a Super Bowl run in 2026.
