Chicago Bears HC gives clue on potential DJ Moore trade

On Sunday night, Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore chose not to speak with the media following his role in the interception in overtime that led to a 20-17 win for the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round.

Moore received heavy criticism for his effort on the route, appearing to jog before second-year quarterback Caleb Williams launched a pass headed his way that was ultimately intercepted by Rams safety Kam Curl.

Williams wanted Moore to “flatten” his route on the play and attack the wide-open space underneath the secondary coverage. Moore went over the top half-heartedly.

With the Bears having numerous weapons on offense, it was fair to wonder if Sunday night’s game would be the last for Moore in Chicago. The Bears could trade him, allowing for the team to better build out the defense for a Super Bowl run in 2026.

During his end-of-season news conference on Wednesday, Bears head coach Ben Johnson was asked about Moore’s mindset after the loss to the Rams.

Johnson offered a clue on his future with Chicago, saying he had a “good exit interview” this week.

“You would have to talk to him about his mindset,” Johnson said. “We had a really good exit interview, and he’s a player that that I felt really helped us get to the point to where we were this year. We had a we had an opportunity there, you know, a couple games away from Super Bowl.

“So I thought he was a huge contributor to getting us there.”

Johnson’s comments seem to suggest the Bears want to keep Moore in 2026, knowing he was key to the team winning the NFC North and advancing to the to the Divisional Round.

Moore caught five passes for 52 yards and hauled in an incredible three-yard touchdown pass in the first half on a fourth-down play. He caught the game-winning touchdown against the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round.

He also caught the game-winning touchdown pass against the Packers on Dec. 20.

However, if the Bears plan to trade Moore, Johnson would have given general manager Ryan Poles no help in the market if he threw the wide receiver under the bus.

Moore was Chicago’s second-leading receiver in the regular season with 682 yards and six touchdowns on 50 receptions.

There’s no question he’s a good player. But with strong and young targets like Colston Loveland, Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III returning, it’s fair to wonder if the Bears would be better trading him to help in more needed areas of the team.
