Chicago Bulls discussing trading for former first overall pick this trade deadline

New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson (1) drives to the basket past Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid (11) in the second half at Target Center.

The Chicago Bulls have been playing well lately as they are currently ninth in the Eastern Conference with a 21-22 record. They are sitting just four games back for the third seed in the conference as teams are all in a similar spot thus far. With the NBA Trade Deadline a few weeks away, there are some moves that the Bulls could be ready to make. Let’s take a look at one reported massive trade that there have been some discussions about.

Chicago Sun-Times’ Joe Cowley wrote an article about how Bulls executive Arturas Karnisovas has the ability to change the narrative surrounding the team’s front office. In the piece, he confirmed the reports about Chicago being in some talks with the New Orleans Pelicans to get Zion Williamson and/or Yves Missi. Below is the excerpt from his article:

“The Sun-Times confirmed a report that the Bulls have had ongoing talks with the Pelicans about players such as forward Zion Williamson and center Yves Missi. While the chatter around Williamson has quieted on the Pelicans’ end, there has been momentum around Missi. The question is, at what cost?”

Just because the talks have quieted down a bit does not mean they are officially dead. It is also interesting as there has been no official word of what the price tag would be for either player. Williamson is still only 25 years old and has been playing well this season as he is averaging 22.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.6 blocks, and 1.2 steals in 29.3 minutes per game thus far. For Missi, he is in his second NBA season and has seen an increase in minutes lately. He is averaging 5.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game behind rookie Derik Queen.

This is not the first time the team has been linked to the two-time All-Star. These two players indicate the Bulls are looking to get younger in the frontcourt and add players with multiple years of control. It will be intriguing to see if Chicago’s front office is able to pull the trigger on a major name like Williamson this trade deadline as they continue to fight for a top-six seed in the Eastern Conference right now.
