Chicago Bears send brutal message to offensive player, ruled inactive vs Rams
The Chicago Bears entered the week uncertain of their offensive line for Sunday night’s contest against the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round.
More News: Bears already have Ian Cunningham’s replacement in mind
The Bears lost rookie second-round pick Ozzy Trapilo for the season in the team’s 31-27 win over the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round. Trapilo suffered a patellar tendon injury in the final drive of the contest.
With Trapilo on injured reserve, the Bears are expected to turn to Joe Thuney to play left tackle against the Rams, per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. Jordan McFadden is expected to play at left guard, the position Thuney normally plays.
Chicago must think they can get more out of that combination than Theo Benedet at left tackle and Thuney at left tackle. Benedet appeared in 16 games this season and started eight.
On Sunday afternoon, the Bears revealed another big note for left tackle. Chicago has made former starting left tackle Braxton Jones inactive against the Rams.
Quarterback Case Keenum, cornerback Nick McCloud, wide receiver Jahdae Walker, linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II, and defensive end Joe Tyron-Shoyinka were also made inactive for Sunday night.

The Chicago Bears don’t appear to trust Braxton Jones

More News: Bears: Weather looks nastier now for Rams game
Earlier this week, the Bears promoted Jones to the active roster from injured reserve. Jones hurt his knee in Week 7.
He was listed as a full participant for all three practices on the injury report this week. Clearly, the Bears don’t believe the 2022 fifth-round pick is a suitable option to protect Caleb Williams against the Rams, even as a swing tackle.
Jones has appeared in 46 games and played in 44 during his first four seasons in Chicago. The Bears are sending a message that they don’t trust him, even as the offensive line is dealing with significant problems at left tackle in the postseason.
This could be the final game for Jones on the active roster. The Bears might move on from the former Southern Utah product in the offseason.
