The Chicago White Sox finally pulled the trigger on trading away center fielder Luis Robert Jr. on Tuesday night, as they made a move with the New York Mets. There was a lot of discussion about the return, but it appears that the team is excited about the two players they were able to receive as part of the deal. Let’s take a look at what the White Sox general manager said regarding the return that they were able to get.

While talking to the media following the Luis Robert Jr trade where the team acquired Luisangel Acuna and right-handed pitcher Truman Pauley, general manager Chris Getz would explain how he targeted getting Acuna on the team.
“We’re talking about a player with five-plus years of control, one of the younger, exciting players in our game who hasn’t really gotten a runway at the major league level. … I know [the Mets] didn’t want to get rid of him. I know that. That’s because of how valuable he can be to the team. Now, he was on a roster that didn’t really allow him to let him go out there and show what he could do on a regular basis. We’ll be able to provide that.”
Acuna is projected to be the team’s starting center fielder, according to Fangraphs. He has not been able to figure things out at the plate in his career thus far as in 214 at-bats, he has a .248/.299/.341 slash line with three home runs, 14 RBI, 36 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases. However, Acuna has shown the ability to be a plus-defender and should be able to improve at the plate with consistent at-bats. The White Sox need to see what they can get and if their coaching staff is able to unlock something in him at the plate. It will be intriguing to see how he develops to see if this trade ultimately is deemed a success.
