The Cowboys make their decision on Matt Eberflus after showing his incompetence
The Dallas Cowboys have once again disappointed their fans by going 7-9-1 and missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

After switching coaches, trading away their best defensive player, Micah Parsons, and having one of the worst defenses in the NFL under defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, the Cowboys are in complete disarray. The Cowboys had the second-best offense (391.9 yards) behind the Los Angeles Rams (394.6 yards), and Eberflus couldn’t back it up, producing the third-worst defense (377.0 yards) in the league.
This failure and the incompetence to put together an adequate defense have led the Cowboys to decide to part ways with Eberflus, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. The Cowboys also had the worst passing defense (251.5 yards) and scoring defense 30.1 points allowed, while their rushing defense (23rd, 125.5 yards) was the best part of the dysfunction.

Matt Eberflus failed to help the Dallas Cowboys improve just as he failed to improve the Chicago Bears
Before taking the defensive coordinator’s role with Dallas, Eberflus had been attempting to lead the Bears to their first winning season since 2018 (12-4), but failed to do so in his three seasons at the helm, with a record of 14-32 (.304 winning percentage). The Bears would eventually decide to move on from Eberflus partway through the 2024 season, after failing to use his final timeout to set up a potential game-tying field goal attempt. Eberflus, in his final season, went 4-8.
Failing in Chicago and now in Dallas doesn’t bode well for Eberflus’s future as a head coach or a coordinator in the NFL. However, with at least six head coaching vacancies and possibly more coordinator positions opening, Eberflus will have options and likely get another chance somewhere else.
