Chicago Bears hire Super Bowl-winning offensive coach: Report
The Chicago Bears had two big offensive coaching positions to fill this offseason after making the Divisional Round in the first season of head coach Ben Johnson’s tenure.

Running backs coach Eric Bieniemy left Chicago to become the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs. Offensive coordinator Declan Doyle took the same position with the Baltimore Ravens, but the job is a promotion as he’ll call the plays under new head coach Jesse Minter.
Johnson calls the plays for Chicago, so it’s no surprise the team filled the running backs position before hiring an offensive coordinator.
Per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears are bringing back a former assistant in Eric Studesville to replace Bieniemy.
“Bears have hired Eric Studesville as running backs coach,” Biggs posted on X. “It’s his second stint with the team and he’s worked with a lot of good RBs over the years. Ben Johnson worked with him for 2 seasons in Miami.”

Studesville, 58, worked with the Miami Dolphins from 2017 to 2025. He got his start coaching in the NFL for the Bears in 1997, when he served as an offensive quality control coach and offensive assistant. He worked his way up to wide receiver coach and assistant special teams coach.
Studesville served as an interim head coach for the Denver Broncos after Josh McDaniels was fired. He went 1-3 with the Broncos. He won Super Bowl 50 with Denver.

Studesville has a good track record of working with running backs, recently helping to elevate the career of De’Von Achane. Achane rushed for 1,350 yards and eight touchdowns in 2025, earning his first Pro Bowl nomination.
The Bears saw elevated production out of the backfield last season in Johnson’s system. D’Andre Swift led Chicago in rushing with 1,087 yards and nine touchdowns on 223 carries. Rookie Kyle Monangai rushed for 783 yards and five touchdowns.
It remains to be seen what the Bears do with the position in the offseason. The Bears could move on from Swift, paving the way for Johnson to add a running back who can be more lethal as a pass catcher, something the coach had with Jahmyr Gibbs in Detroit.
Achane was the second-leading receiver on the Dolphins with 488 yards and four touchdowns.
