1-Year Lease on Breece; Jets hit RB With Franchise Tag
Breece Hall isn’t going anywhere after the Jets slapped the running back with the franchise tag, which will pay him just over $14 million for the 2026 season. Multiple outlets have reported that the two sides are working on a long-term deal which is difficult to envision ever coming to fruition.
Hall has made it clear through various social media outlets over the past year or so that he would like to move on from Gang Green and test the market elsewhere. In an interview just over a week ago, Hall was asked about his feelings in regards to possibly staying with the Jets and is response was underwhelming at best. “I don’t know” said Hall, “whatever happens, happens”.
Well, whether he wanted it or not, Hall is now tagged and will play for the Jets in 2026 as their only proven back with free agency and the draft approaching.
It’s difficult to blame Hall for wanting out of this dysfunctional organization. Despite being plenty good enough to be a versatile, multi-purpose back, the Jets have failed to get the most out of Hall’s ability through his first four pro seasons. Despite one coordinator or head coach after another praising his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, he’s rarely targeted in the pass game.
On the ground, Hall should have multiple 1,000 yard seasons under his belt. Instead, just topped that mark for the first time this season. What has unquestionably been a difficult few years for Hall is likely to feature much of the same in 2026, when Hall will look to test free agency again, unless he’s traded before that.
