Chicago White Sox: Edgar Quero gives honest reaction to manager’s 3-catcher comments
The Chicago White Sox are in re-building mode. Despite this, they have a plethora of young and exciting players with which to build their 2026 MLB roster. While many do not expect the White Sox to compete for much this year, the future is certainly bright as their most talented young players compete for Major League at bats.
This is particularly true at the catcher position. Edgar Quero, Kyle Teel, and Korey Lee are all having solid starts to Spring Training, and each would easily be a part of any MLB team’s Major League roster.
The problem, though, is that teams do not usually carry three catchers on their rosters. In a few short weeks, the White Sox may be faced with a very difficult choice.

Of the sudden quality depth he has at catcher, White Sox manager Will Venable said, “I think it really is going to take care of itself. We know that we like Kyle catching and hitting against righties. We know that Edgar can DH. We’ll have a couple of guys who will fill that DH spot vs. right-handed pitching.
“We like Edgar catching against the lefties. It doesn’t have to be a straight platoon. We don’t view it like that. We just know of the demand of the catching position, there will be lots of opportunities for them behind the plate.”
Quero has hit .529/.556/.824 with a home run and nine RBI in five Spring Training games.
When asked what he thought of competing with Teel and Lee for a spot on the roster, Quero said, “We’re happy to be here together. We don’t talk about that, we just do our job. We go out and try to do the best for the team, no matter what. It doesn’t matter who’s playing, the thing is to help your team to win.”
Teel is off to play for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic, so Quero is continue to get opportunities in Spring Training. It will be interesting to see how the catcher situation sorts itself out.
