Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi (23) rounds the bases after hitting a three run home run during the second inning against the Minnesota Twins

The Chicago White Sox are looking to get some quality players on the team to move in the right direction. Spending money effectively on quality players is the best way to do just that, but that’s not always the case. There are some bad contracts in baseball, as players aren’t living up to their expectations. Let’s take a closer look at who is considered the worst contract for the White Sox right now.

Andrew Benintendi’s contract is considered the worst for the Chicago White Sox in 2026

White Sox left fielder Andrew Benintendi (23) runs past third base after batting a 2-run home run against Detroit Tigers during the eighth inning at Comerica Park in Detroit.
Syndication: Detroit Free Press Chicago White Sox left fielder Andrew Benintendi (23) runs past third base after batting a 2-run home run against Detroit Tigers during the eighth inning at Comerica Park in Detroit on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024.

The White Sox have been able to get rid of some bad contracts, but are not at zero. Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly selected the worst current contract for each team. Andrew Benintendi was the listed player for the team as he in the midst of a five-year, $75 million contract. Below is what Kelly wrote:

“Considering the White Sox are projected to enter this upcoming season with a payroll of just $106.6 million, Andrew Benintendi’s contract is hardly weighing their franchise down. That doesn’t mean, though, that general manager Chris Getz doesn’t wish he hadn’t inherited the five-year, $75 million contract that Benintendi signed to join the White Sox ahead of the 2023 campaign.”

He has $32.2 million remaining on his contract through the 2027 season. However, there are some positives to look at in Benintendi’s career.

“Benintendi has spent a decade in the league, which isn’t an insignificant accomplishment. However, he’s never lived up to the superstar potential he flashed when he broke into the league with the Red Sox as a 21-year-old.”

Benintendi played in 116 games last season and struggled at the plate. He posted a .240/.307/.431 slash line with 20 home runs, 64 RBI, and 57 runs scored. It will be intriguing to see how Benintendi plays in 2026 and if he can turn things around to get off this list.
