Chicago Bears: Biggest weakness after NFL free agency’s first wave

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Ryan Poles' tenure as general manager for the Bears has been controversial due to several misses with draft selections.

The Chicago Bears are continuing to make moves this offseason to bolster the roster. The team has seen some talent leave, but it has also added some significant pieces. Chicago had a weakness on the defensive side of the field last season and addressed the need. However, after the initial wave of free agency, the team still has some holes to address. Let’s take a closer look at what the Bears’ biggest weakness is at this point.

The Chicago Bears’ biggest weakness is the interior defensive linemen

The Athletic wrote an article describing the biggest weakness remaining on each team following the initial wave of free agency. Dan Wiederer wrote about the Bears’ situation and labeled the interior defensive line as their biggest weakness. Below is the snippet he wrote about Chicago;

“The recent additions and re-signings to both the offensive and defensive lines have set the Bears up to be flexible in next month’s draft. But a quick scan of the depth chart reveals an obvious need for greater talent and depth in the trenches, with no obvious long-term answers at either left tackle or center and more needed on defense — particularly on the interior — to energize the pass rush. Several waves of free agency remain. But it would not be a shocker if the Bears used the first two nights of the draft to strengthen both lines.”

With the Bears expected to run a 4-3 base defense, they use two defensive tackles in their lineup. Currently, the team has veteran Grady Jarrett and Gervon Dexter Sr. as starters with Shemar Turner as the backup. Two of their free agents that were on the 53-man roster are defensive tackles, so do not be surprised to see at least one addition to be a defensive tackle. It will be intriguing to see if Chicago addresses it in free agency or waits until the draft to do so.
