Chicago Bears: Pro Bowl center option emerges before free agency
In February, the Chicago Bears started to do due diligence on the center position.

Entering the offseason, the Bears weren’t expected to need help at the interior offensive line position after trading for guards Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney and signing Drew Dalman in free agency during the 2025 offseason.
Those three were key to the Bears offense having success under first-year head coach Ben Johnson.
However, Dalman told Chicago that he intends to retire this offseason, and general manager Ryan Poles must address a position that plagued the team for years before Dalman’s arrival.
Immediately after ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news that Dalman was retiring, the Bears were linked to a couple of centers.
The Bears have shown an interest in Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl center Tyler Linderbaum, set to enter free agency next week. Chicago will visit with former Washington Commanders center Tyler Biadasz.
Another option appears to be opening up for Chicago.
Per Tim Graham of The Athletic, Buffalo Bills center Connor McGovern does not believe he’ll return to play under first-year head coach Joe Brady. The Bills have not had a contract with the Pro Bowl offensive lineman.

On Wednesday, Aaron Schatz of ESPN noted that McGovern, a 2019 third-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys, is flying under the radar before free agency. His pass-block win rate should get the Bears’ attention.
“You might be very surprised to see where McGovern landed in ESPN’s block win rate stats for 2025,” Schatz wrote. “His 97.2% pass block win rate was tied for second behind the Chiefs’ Creed Humphrey, and his 72.6% run block win rate was third among all centers. He’s also just 28 years old.”
McGovern has appeared in 98 games and started 74. The six-foot-five, 318-pound center was ranked by Pro Football Focus as the No. 15 center in 2025. In 2023, he signed a three-year deal worth over $22 million.
