Chicago White Sox rank towards the bottom of The Athletic’s preseason power rankings

The Chicago White Sox rank 28th in The Athletic’s Preseason Power Rankings
The Athletic posted their MLB Preseason Power Rankings ahead of Opening Day. The selection process sees local and national media vote on the rankings, and the average position places each team. Chicago finished 28th on the list with an average position of 27.5. Johnny Flores Jr. wrote a snippet about the White Sox’s offseason and why they should at least be a fun watch:
“The White Sox lost 102 games last year. They’ll probably lose 90-plus in 2026. Unlike last season, there’s a lot to watch for, even as the losses pile up. For one, the club signed Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami to a two-year deal just before his posting window expired. How the 26-year-old adjusts to MLB pitching will be fascinating to watch. On the other side, after trading away Luis Robert Jr. to the Mets, Chicago used some of that savings on its pitching staff, including the addition of Seranthony Dominguez on a two-year pact. The core of Chase Meidroth, Kyle Teel, Colson Montgomery and not-switch-hitter Luisangel Acuna should also take another step forward.”

Chicago can surprise people with their ability to win, but it is going to be intriguing to see how they do early in the season. They can climb up the rankings and be a pesky team throughout the season.
