Korey Lee to stay with the Chicago White Sox
One of the more intriguing decisions that the Chicago White Sox had to make early on was with Korey Lee. The catcher was projected to make the Opening Day roster after the Kyle Teel injury, but would wind up missing out after Reese McGuire was signed late in Spring Training. As a result, he would be waived and able to search for a team to place him on their 26-man roster. There has been a new wrinkle added to the drama, so let’s take a closer look at what has happened.

It was announced on Saturday afternoon, ahead of their game against Milwaukee, that Lee is returning to the organization. The 27-year-old catcher would clear waivers and return to the team, but be optioned to Triple-A Charlotte. Lee has not been able to produce too much at the plate throughout his four-year career, posting a .555 OPS with 14 home runs in 186 games played. Having him return gives Chicago some veteran depth in Triple-A at catcher, as he and Drew Romo are the backstops for the Charlotte Knights.
What happens with the catcher depth is going to be intriguing once Teel returns to the team. Could general manager Chris Getz make an early trade to move one of these catchers off the roster? The team currently has five catchers between the majors and Triple-A, so it is likely one of them will be off the team soon. Lee is the most likely candidate if there were to be a move in the works, as he was initially waived. It will be intriguing to see what happens for the catcher depth chart going forward, as Getz has his hands full there.
