OTL: Crosby Out, Hendrickson In! An Insane Few Hours in Baltimore
Where to begin?
All week, Ravens fans watched pieces of the 2025 roster be torn away. Stars, fan favorites, and key contributors left Baltimore in Free Agency, but the city had one thing to hang its hat on: the arrival of EDGE Maxx Crosby. That is, until Tuesday evening:
The Raiders announce the Ravens have backed out of a trade for Maxx Crosby that would have sent two first-round picks (in 2026 and 2027) to the Raiders.
Trades aren’t official until the start of the league year on Wednesday at 4PM.
— Jamison Hensley (@jamisonhensley) March 11, 2026
Maxx Crosby was in Baltimore. The trade was pending a the results of a physical. Crosby has had a history of knee injuries.
Back to the drawing board. What a disastrous offseason this could be.
— Jonas Shaffer (@jonas_shaffer) March 11, 2026
Crosby has been in Baltimore for the past couple of days in anticipation of the deal becoming finalized at 4 pm tomorrow.
Now, there will be no deal and the Ravens, who have already lost nine UFAs while signing one, are in an even bigger hole. https://t.co/FHsOeqrVrn— Jeff Zrebiec (@jeffzrebiec) March 11, 2026
After Maxx Crosby underwent testing today at the Ravens’ facility, Baltimore made the decision as an organization that it could not move forward with the deal based on the results of the medical.
Crosby will remain a Raider for now as other teams can weigh any potential risk…
— Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) March 11, 2026
First of all, this story feels like it’s still being written. Even still, it’s unbelievable and is making waves throughout the league:
I’m hearing Crosby’s medical issues (knee) were well known. Now it looks like the Ravens rolled the dice on the deal while they bleed talent. This is beyond embarrassing for a proud organization.
— Lombardi Party of One (@RSRLombardi) March 11, 2026
This goes from a monumental offseason where they finally got a game changing edge to one where I don’t know what they’re going to do to pick up the pieces. Ok they got the picks back but don’t have the difference maker anymore

Other NFL GMs have a lot of questions after the Ravens backed out of the Maxx Crosby trade because of what they told the Raiders were medical concerns. @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/CIQSMCpHXT

INSANE RIPPLE EFFECT
THE #RAVENS BACKING OUT OF THE MAXX CRSOBY TRADE HAS SIGNIFICANT IMPLICATIONS FOR EVERY SINGLE TEAM IN THE LEAGUE:
1: The #Raiders: Have spent money which they expected to free up due to the Crosby trade, including Tyler Linderbaum, and they also… pic.twitter.com/8PStM8YL6r

Immediate reaction to the stunning Maxx Crosby news. pic.twitter.com/mu7K4kZQAT
— ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) March 11, 2026
Don’t expect teams to be lining up immediately to get back into Maxx Crosby trade talks. Some teams I spoke to tonight expect the Raiders to be the ones calling them.
It’ll be up to individual teams’ medical staffs to decide on whether to assume the risk of trading for Crosby.
— Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) March 11, 2026
I feel like I could just keep posting reactions, but I’ll spare you. The point is, the Ravens are at the center of one of the biggest SNAFUs in recent memory, and just when you thought the offseason couldn’t get any weirder, it did.
I say weirder, because it’s hard to know how to feel about this. On one hand, Baltimore’s poor start to free agency left it with a long list of to-dos:
Sources: Former #Ravens 6x Pro Bowl FB Pat Ricard has agreed to a 2-year deal with the #Giants to make him the highest-paid FB in the NFL.
Ricard leaves Baltimore after 9 incredible years and reunites with John Harbaugh. pic.twitter.com/ylQEd51N06
— Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) March 10, 2026
At the time, this added a colossal hole to the list:
Has absolutely nothing to do with it. The ravens just let all of their free agents walk to not get Crosby? No it just ruined the entire offseason. https://t.co/6aWmjLktOv

THE BALTIMORE #RAVENS ARE POTENTIALLY HAVING THE WORST OFF-SEASON EVER…

On the other hand, the Ravens have consistently been conservative when it comes to injury outlooks. If Crosby’s injury truly caused concerns, is he someone we’d want the team to trade two 1st Round Picks for?
Makes you wonder if Nnamdi Madubuike’s injury might have influenced what the medical staff could have seen that causes some fundamental long term issues.
Factor in that they’ve lost a few guys to career ending injuries (i.e. Zach Orr). #RavensFlock
— Cole Jackson (@ColeJacksonFB) March 11, 2026
Having rep’d Zach Orr during a traumatic time in his life with the @Ravens (his neck issue forced him into retirement), I assure you, the @Ravens medical staff is going to be hypersensitive to injury issues
— Keepin It RealSports (@KRS3Sports) March 11, 2026
A key couple of paragraphs from @RapSheet’s story on Maxx Crosby that published on Super Bowl weekend. Medical clearance was not expected by now. It’s all a projection on his recovery. The #Ravens weren’t comfortable making that projection today. The #Raiders disagree. https://t.co/6VWroxy9k6 pic.twitter.com/MD8zCv9HjO

We had passing physical concerns on Monday’s #ProFootballBallDocPodcast https://t.co/R9SQGYv9p0

Talking to other GMs around the league on the Maxx Crosby situation and his post meniscus recovery in generalities.
One had this to say:
“He was never gonna ‘pass’ a physical …based on where he is in recovery. Something else had to lead to the decision. Do they think he is…
— Jane Slater (@SlaterNFL) March 11, 2026
CJ LaBoy, Crosby’s agent, stated that the EDGE could even be considered “ahead of schedule.” Overnight and into the morning, however, it was reported that the Dallas Cowboys team surgeon (and one of the league’s best) may have advised against trading for Crosby. Similarly, Diana Russini noted that the pass rusher’s long-term health was the primary concern. Ian Rapaport also highlighted that both sides wanted this to work out, despite the medical update. The point is, things still feel unclear:
Maxx continues to be on track in his recovery and if anything is ahead of schedule according to his surgeon Dr Neal El Attrache. Maxx remains on track to return during the offseason program & will undoubtedly return as the dominant game wrecker he has been these past 7 seasons.
— CJ LaBoy (@CJLaBoy) March 11, 2026
Adam Schefter on Maxx Crosby’s failed Ravens physical:
“My understanding is that there were multiple doctors that reviewed his MRI scans. There were doctors that examined him, including Dr. Daniel Cooper, the Dallas Cowboys doctor that performed surgery on Patrick Mahomes and… pic.twitter.com/7BlLxzJvQN

Teams that were interested in trading for Maxx Crosby, including the Ravens, had conversations with his surgeon, Neal ElAttrache, and the Raiders’ medical staff before making trade offers.

Oh so the Ravens STILL tried to make the deal work even after things were going south?? Thank you @RapSheet for the clarification. pic.twitter.com/3QuNxPiaRP
— Bmore Birds (@outstndnbrandon) March 11, 2026
Regardless, this does not look good for anybody, and the Ravens may need to provide some sort of explanation. After all, their offseason looked to be entirely derailed:
I need a statement from the @Ravens or EDC ASAP!!! https://t.co/KN9GPs28he

Updated depth charts (losses highlighted in black to show full magnitude) after 2 days of FA and the backing out of the Maxx Crosby trade.
Certainly looks a lot worse, holy pic.twitter.com/eTMZN28Lw6
— Cole Jackson (@ColeJacksonFB) March 11, 2026
Even if you want to trust that the health concerns were enough to push back on the deal, GM Eric DeCosta looks bad. While teams have pulled out of trades before, it’s incredibly rare that one this massive falls through. As a result, conspiracy theories will fly:
The fact is the Baltimore Ravens have the right to back out of this trade if he fails their physical.
But unless it’s determined publicly that Las Vegas hid something health wise during the trade process, Baltimore deserves the backlash from this.
This stinks…

Free agent pass rusher Trey Hendrickson is expected to make a formal decision tomorrow, per sources.
Several teams continue to monitor the market and remain interested. He has offers on the table. pic.twitter.com/LqwGDB9xjP

If I’m the Ravens, I’m calling the Eagles about Jalen Carter
— Cordell Woodland (@CordellWoodland) March 11, 2026
Only 3 reasons I see this happening….
1.) He failed his physical/time line of return is longer than expected
2.) They are going to use the money they would have used on Linderbaum to get Trey Hendrickson & get to keep their picks
3.) Lamar isn’t signing his extension.
— Ravens Tattoo Guy (@RavensTattooGuy) March 11, 2026
Needless to say, we all knew it would be fascinating to see how this shifted the Ravens offseason attack. The O-Line was in catastrophic shape; The pass rush was back at square one; Mark Andrews was the team’s only Tight End; Baltimore had just one boundary CB; We knew the team was looking for a third Safety; Keaton Mitchell hadn’t been tendered a contract.
While many of those holes remain, two significant updates were provided around 9AM:
The #Ravens renegotiated Lamar Jackson’s contract YESTERDAY to create more cap room, multiple sources tell me.
They were clearly readying to onboard Maxx Crosby – until the medical assessment made the price of two first round picks too risky. https://t.co/D2fovIa3Jp
— Aditi Kinkhabwala (@AKinkhabwala) March 11, 2026
#Bengals FA edge Trey Hendrickson, the top pass-rusher on the market, is set to sign with the #Ravens, per me and @TomPelissero.
With the Maxx Crosby trade off, Baltimore lands the top edge available. pic.twitter.com/EDFuM1sKbQ
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 11, 2026
While I’ll choose to believe that Baltimore pulled out of the Crosby trade for the right reasons (albeit bad news for the EDGE himself), it’s hard not to question whether the Ravens’ moves were a bit slimy here. Either way, did this roller coaster of a 12 hour period leave Baltimore better off than it was before?
Ravens trade:
Trey Hendrickson
2026 Round 1
2027 Round 1FOR
Maxx Crosby

What a ride…
