Chicago Bears get disappointing grade for Zavion Thomas draft pick
The Chicago Bears had some intriguing draft picks throughout the 2026 NFL Draft. One of the more surprising picks for the team was their taking wide receiver Zavion Thomas from the LSU Tigers. With the team continuing to add offensive pieces, it was a bit of a surprise when the pick was announced. What grade did one outlet give Chicago for taking Thomas?
Bleacher Report gives the Chicago Bears a ‘D’ grade for selection Zavion Thomas
Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report wrote an article where he graded every Day 2 pick of the 2026 NFL Draft. The Bears did not get a good grade for their final pick of the day, getting a ‘D’ grade for selection Thomas. Below is his snippet explaining his thoughts about the pick:
“An inline tight end followed by a speed merchant at wide receiver is a fascinating pair of back-to-back picks by the Chicago Bears. Sam Roush and Zavion Thomas are very specific talents with niche roles to start their careers, yet bring enough upside to develop into something more down the road.
“In Thomas’ case, he’s an instant vertical threat. The Bears didn’t have a true burner among their top three wide receivers. That hole has now been filled. Though Thomas has yet to become a consistent threat at any point in his career.”
Thomas has been used as a threat in multiple facets with the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the LSU Tigers. Besides being a wide receiver, he has been able to run the football and be a top-tier kick/punt returner. However, a gadget player that is going to be competing for a starting wide receiver spot at that pick may have been a bit of a reach. Thomas is one of the fastest players in the draft, so he can be a legitimate threat with the ball in his hands. It will be intriguing to see how coach Ben Johnson uses the rookie wideout.
