Chicago Bears: Gov. JB Pritzker pressuring state to make decision
The Chicago Bears are running out of time for Illinois to pass team-friendly tax legislation that would allow the team to decide Arlington Heights will be the new location for a stadium project to replace Soldier Field.

The NFL is getting antsy for the Bears to build a new stadium. After the draft, the Bears will meet with the NFL stadium council about their updated plans to build at the site in Arlington Heights or in Hammond, Indiana.
The Bears appeared to use northwest Indiana as leverage to force Illinois to make concessions in a timely manner. However, the state legislature has not approved a bill that would give the Bears a tax-friendly deal and fund infrastructure projects around Arlington Heights.
On Thursday, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker put some pressure on the legislature.
Per Brenden Moore of Capitol News Illinois, Pritzker suggested a “scaffolding of a deal” for the Bears was in place, but the legislature has to do the rest. He urged lawmakers to move quickly.
“(I) would like the legislature to move faster, just because I think that will be good for everybody to get this done,” he said.

The Illinois legislature is dealing with several issues this spring. Pritzker didn’t offer a hard deadline for giving the Bears an answer, but hoped something would happen before the end of May.
“We have a lot of things on the schedule that need to get done before the end of May, including, importantly, a balanced budget that I put forward, so I’d like to get this done before we ever get to that point,” Pritzker said.
Despite public comments, there really hasn’t been tangible movement on the part of Illinois this spring. It makes one wonder if the Bears really will make plans to move to Indiana as Illinois toys with the play clock.
