Chicago Bears have a Dennis Allen issue for 2026 draft
The Chicago Bears are drafting a little bit later in this year’s draft, thinking to a successful 2025 campaign that saw new head coach Ben Johnson win the NFC North and make it to the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

The Bears are set to be on the clock at No. 25, the lowest the team has had since they didn’t have a first-round pick in 2022, the first year under general manager Ryan Poles. The Bears went with cornerback Kyler Gordon and safety Jaquan Brisker in the second round of that draft.
As a legitimate Super Bowl contender, Chicago needs to hit with the No. 25 pick this year. There have been arguments about whether the Bears should go with a pass-rusher or left tackle with the first-round pick this year.
During an appearance on 670 The Score, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune explained why he thinks the Bears will go after Auburn Tigers edge rusher Keldric Faulk with the No. 25 pick. The Bears are having a difficult time finding players capable of fitting in defensive coordinator Dennis Allen’s scheme.
Faulk could be a match.
“He’s young. He’s super young, right? And so you talk about the measurables and kind of the athletic profile, if there’s a feeling like, this is a guy who’s scratching the surface. They’re hard to find. To find the prototype for size, for that Dennis Allen defense, with the athletic ability.
“There’s just not a lot of those cats on this earth… and he’s got to be in the mix, I would think, unless there’s something about it that they’re completely turned off by–was playing top-level competition in the SEC.”
Faulk is a six-foot-six, 285-pound athlete from Highland Home, Alabama. He recorded 74 tackles, 10 sacks, and one forced fumble during his three seasons with Auburn.
The Chicago Bears need DE’s that fit Dennis Allen’s scheme

While his production was somewhat limited in college, Biggs explained that it’s hard for the Bears to find players that fit Allen’s scheme.
“Quite simply, there’s going to be some, some of these edge rushers in this draft. You look at him and you’re like, ‘Well, I don’t know that he fits for Dennis Allen.’ Like some of these guys that are undersized, edge rusher. I don’t know,” Biggs said.
The Bears need to find ample defensive linemen capable of generating a pass rush. It’s been a problem since the teardown in 2022, and Chicago has not added enough talent to that part of the defense.
Faulk could be a player that Allen can develop in this defense. But if the Bears don’t use a high draft pick at DE or DT, the team might have to make a move before the trade deadline if they’re serious about making a Super Bowl run.
