Chicago Sky trade Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream
The Chicago Sky have not been shy about making moves ahead of the 2026 WNBA season, and have just made their biggest one yet. After a 10-32 season, it was clear the team was not happy with how things had played out. There have been some issues brewing between Chicago and star forward Angel Reese, but the ties have been severed. The Chicago front office has made one of the biggest moves in franchise history, as they have traded away Angel Reese. The team has sent two-time All-Star Angel Reese and a 2028 second-round pick to the Atlanta Dream in exchange for 2027 first-round, 2028 first-round, and 2028 second-round draft picks, per ESPN’s Kendra Andrews. Chicago is officially hitting the reset button and moving on from their franchise star, just seemed to be the best thing for the team. Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca explained the trade in a press release.
“The trade is designed to achieve roster balance and represents a great opportunity for all parties. Angel has achieved many record-breaking milestones in her first two years in the WNBA and has been a competitive force for the Sky. We are thankful for her many important contributions to this league aand this game, and we know she will continue to have a big impact on the court and beyond. We wish Angel all the best in her next chapter.”
Reese seemingly had her relationship with Chicago sour following her comments regarding the roster construction. The team deemed the comments as “detrimental to the team” and suspended her for the first half of the following game. However, she would not appear in the following three games to end the season, citing a back injury. Reese played in 64 games with the Sky over the last two years. She averaged 14.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 32.0 minutes per game.
The team can now focus on a young core for the future. Chicago holds picks five, 21, and 32 in the 2026 WNBA Draft and added another two future first-round picks. It will be intriguing to see how the franchise plans to use them.
