ESPN draft analyst has surprising pick for Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears enter the 2026 NFL Draft in an unfamiliar place. It’s been a while since the Bears were picking in the mid-20’s, spending the last few years picking in the top 10. But that’s what happens when you find success like they did last season.
For the Bears, the mocks have been all over the place in terms of who they are going to pick. It ranges anywhere from a safety, defensive end, defensive tackle, offensive tackle and defensive back. There’s been a few names that have been mentioned as well.
But ahead of Thursday night’s first round, an ESPN draft analyst has a surprise name.
Field Yates makes selection for Chicago Bears in 2026 NFL mock draft
With the draft here, Yates made his final picks for his mock draft. While he has the Bears taking an edge rusher, it’s a player that hasn’t really been connected to Chicago yet.
Yates has the Bears taking Oklahoma edge rusher R Mason Thomas:
Chicago has put an emphasis on getting faster this offseason, and Thomas would support that push. He has an excellent first step, powerful hands and a high-level motor to help the Bears be less reliant on scheming pressure via blitzes. Last season, Chicago ranked 29th in pressure rate (28%).
An edge rusher would make sense, but Thomas has not really been connected to the Bears in the first round. What makes it interesting as well is that Yates has Malachi Lawrence going to the Bills right after.
We will soon find out if Yates is right.
