First 2027 NFL Mock Draft has Chicago Bears addressing defense, again
With the 2026 NFL Draft officially in the books, the next steps for teams is offseason activities. The hope is that the 2026 classes can make an impact right away for their respective teams. But it’s also never too early to look ahead at next year.
While this class was considered on the ‘weaker’ side of things in terms of the overall class, the 2027 class is expected to be better. Yes, it’s early and things will change but many believe this is actually going to be a deep class including some quarterbacks near the top.
For the Bears, the hope is that they will be picking in the high 20’s again, which means they would have success reaching the playoffs. But for their need, one draft expert has the Bears addressing defense again in the first round.
Dan Brugler’s first mock has Chicago Bears targeting secondary, again
As the 2026 draft wrapped up, The Athletic’s Dan Brugler wasted no time releasing his first mock draft for 2027. In the mock, he has Chicago going with Mississippi State defensive back Kelley Jones.
Here is what he had to say about Jones:
Listed at 6-4, Jones has rare speed and ability for a player his size, which will draw obvious attention from NFL teams.
The Bears did take a defensive back this year, selecting Malik Muhammad out of Texas. However, they have some potential decisions to make after this season. If Tyrique Stevenson or Terell Smith don’t provide confidence at the position or if for some reason they wanted to move on from Jaylon Johnson, a defensive back makes sense.
There’s tape on Jones already but this season will be a big one in terms of raising his stock and proving he’s a first round pick. Either way, it will be interesting to see the direction experts think the Bears will take in 2027.
