RSR Mock Draft Tracker: Will Ravens Address OL at 14?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

It is officially Draft Day! Tonight the Ravens will be on the clock, so let’s take one last look at who the experts are projecting to end up in purple and black by night’s end.

Olaivavega Ioane, OG, Penn State

The Ringer’s Todd McShay, ESPN’s Peter Schrager, and NFL Network’s Lance Zierlein

McShay’s analysis:

The Ravens grab one of the best players left on the board at a position of need. It’s a perfect match .

Schrager’s analysis:

The Ravens have always had great success drafting offensive linemen in the first round. And they can lighten the loss of one of those successes (center Tyler Linderbaum, signed in Las Vegas) by taking the best guard on many boards around the league. Ioane is a 6-foot-4, 320-pound mauler, and he could join John Simpson in cleaning up the guard position for Baltimore.

Zierlein’s analysis:

One of the easiest picks to make in this exercise. Ioane immediately boosts the Ravens’ run game by plugging right into an interior offensive line that needs help.

RSR analysis:

In our last mock draft tracker, Utah OL Spencer Fano was the most popular pick. Now, Ioane earns that title.

Ioane is widely regarded as the best pure guard in this draft, so it is an easy match for a team still reworking the guard position. He is also a strong enough prospect that it would not come off as a forced-need pick should Baltimore opt for Ioane.

Spencer Fano, OL, Utah

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. and NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks

Kiper Jr.’s analysis:

Taking Fano here would give Baltimore options. He could stick at his traditional position and become a swing tackle in Year 1 behind Ronnie Stanley and Roger Rosengarten before eventually taking a starter role. He could kick inside to guard and replace Andrew Vorhees. Or he could even be the team’s next starting center after Tyler Linderbaum signed with the Raiders; Fano took snaps at the combine to show teams he could handle the pivot. No matter where he lines up, he has the size (6-foot-6, 311 pounds), agility and technique to keep quarterback Lamar Jackson‘s uniform clean. Fano didn’t allow any sacks last season.

Brooks’s analysis:

Eric DeCosta takes the best offensive lineman on the board. The 6-foot-5 1/2, 311-pounder is the perfect mauler/brawler to help the Ravens re-establish their brand as a rough-and-rugged squad within the trenches.

RSR analysis:

Throughout the whole draft process, Fano has been linked to Baltimore as much as any prospect. If he is there at 14, he would make plenty of sense for multiple reasons.

He can satisfy an immediate need at guard, but also has the positional versatility to play tackle when needed. He is also one of the premier athletes at offensive line in this draft, and is still only 21 years old.

The big question at this point: will Fano even still be on the board for the Ravens? Fano is projected as high as six to Cleveland in many mock drafts, so he may be out of range for Baltimore. We will find out tonight.

Kenyon Sadiq, TE, Oregon

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah:

I could see the Ravens trading down or going with Penn State IOL Olaivavega Ioane here. They end up landing Sadiq, who helps fortify the tight end spot after Baltimore lost Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar in free agency.

RSR analysis:

We should note that Jeremiah also had the Ravens trading back up from 45 to 32 and taking Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods. While Woods is a solid player, it’d be out of character to see the Ravens trade that far up in the draft.

Regarding Sadiq, he does fortify the tight end spot for Baltimore. He is also one of the best athletes in the draft. Can he be productive enough to justify being the choice at 14?

Sadiq in the First? Recent TE History Says Buyer Beware
