Chicago Bears leader gives curious update on injury
The Chicago Bears suffered a couple of big injuries in their wild-card comeback win over the Green Bay Packers in January.

Left tackle Ozzy Trapilo suffered a ruptured patellar tendon on the final series against the Packers. The injury could keep Trapilo out for most of the 2026 season, and the Bears could draft his replacement with the No. 25 pick on Thursday night.
Linebacker T.J. Edwards suffered a fractured fibula in the win over Green Bay. He was not available to play in the Bears’ loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round.
When speaking to reporters in Halas on Tuesday, Edwards suggested that he would still be dealing with his rehab process during OTAs this spring. He expects to be back to normal around the time training camp kicks off in the summer.
“I feel great,” Edwards said, via the Bears. “Working really hard every day. Feel like I’m in a really good spot come summertime. I’ll be ready to go out there with my teammates. But right now, I’m just doing everything I can to stay in it. It’s great to have everyone back here.
“There were some cold days in Halas Hall in March when you’re doing rehab. So, to get everyone back in the building is awesome.”

Edwards believes he can still be the player he was before the injury when he returns to the field again.
“I’ve been doubted my entire career, and that’s just fine with me,” Edwards said. “And I feel like I thrive in that light to be honest with you. That’s kind of how it was my first couple of years in the league, and then sustaining that is what I strive for.
“I know what I’m capable of. I know the player I am and what I bring to a team. So really, the focus on me is just being the best teammate I can be when I get back on the field doing what I do.”
Edwards has been a leader on the defense ever since he joined Chicago in 2023. With Tremaine Edwards gone, the Bears need Edwards to continue being a playmaker at linebacker.
