Bulls connected to gargantuan 8-player trade that would shake up the NBA

The Chicago Bulls certainly have a lot of work to do this offseason, and luckily for them, they have the ammunition to make it happen.

Armed with a pair of first-round draft picks (including the No. 4 overall selection) and $54 million in cap space, the Bulls will have the opportunity to jumpstart a rebuild this summer under new top executive Bryson Graham.

Of course, Chicago will have to be careful with how it proceeds, because blowing its top draft choice and/or locking itself into a bad contract would be devastating.

But because the Bulls have so many assets, they could try and swing a big trade in the coming weeks, and that could even feature moving the No. 4 pick.

Ernesto Cova of Da Windy City has concocted a wild scenario for Chicago in which it would complete a huge eight-player trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder in a proposal that would completely shake up the NBA Draft.

Cova’s proposal has the Bulls sending pick Nos. 4 and 15 as well as Patrick Williams to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for pick Nos. 12 and 17, Nikola Topic, Jared McCain and Thomas Sorber.

Why? Because Cova is not entirely sold on either Cameron Boozer or Caleb Wilson as generational prospects.

“The Bulls would be giving up better draft positioning and a chance at a franchise player, but they would be flipping one lottery ticket into 3, all while still keeping Josh Giddey, [Matas] Buzelis, and [Noa] Essengue, and adding two more draft picks to round out the roster. At that range, they can probably get Cameron Carr, Morez Johnson Jr., or Karim Lopez,” Cova wrote.

I’m honestly not too sure Chicago would even consider making this trade.

Topic has played just 10 games since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2024 (injuries and health issues have largely kept him off the floor), Sorber missed his entire rookie campaign due to a torn ACL and McCain is a subpar defender who averaged just 8.3 points in 67 games this season.

Yes, the Bulls would be getting picks 12 and 17 in the deal, but is all of that worth moving out of the No. 4 slot? It doesn’t seem like it.

Chicago would surely need to be blown away by an offer to trade out of its top draft pick, and this proposed deal with the Thunder — while intriguing — probably wouldn’t cut it.
