Chicago Blackhawks star to miss remainder of IIHF World Championship
The Chicago Blackhawks have seen some of their star players continue playing hockey after the NHL season concluded. There are international tournaments going on where players are representing their home country. One of the Blackhawks players are doing just that, but is finished playing after suffering an injury. Chicago Blackhawks’ Teuvo Teravainen suffers an injury during World Championship
Teuvo Teravainen will no longer be on the ice for Team Finland during the 2026 IIHF World Championship, per the team. It was announced that he suffered an undisclosed injury during the team’s win over Team Germany to begin the tournament. This is a major loss for Team Finland, as Teravainen led the team in scoring at the 2025 World Championships with 11 points.
Teravainen has showcased how dominant he can be in international play, but has not been able to have the same level of results with Chicago. He was able to step up with players like Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar, pairing with him on the top line for the Blackhawks.
Teravainen finished the 2025-26 regular season with 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists). The 31-year-old winger has been a pivotal veteran for the Blackhawks, but there is not much concern regarding his status for the NHL season. Teravainen is entering the final year of his contract and is hoping to improve on last year’s numbers.
With the fourth pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and a significant amount of cap space, the front office could continue to improve the roster. It will be intriguing to see how impactful Teravainen is during his contract year, especially as he recovers during the remainder of the summer.
