Bulls receive stern AJ Dybantsa warning amid growing trade buzz

The Chicago Bulls own a couple of first-round picks in this year’s NBA Draft, including the No. 4 overall selection. The general expectation is that the Bulls will select North Carolina Tar Heels star Caleb Wilson with their top pick, but recently, some trade buzz has surfaced regarding Chicago.

The Bulls also possess the 15th overall pick, so there is a chance that they could look to move up in the draft order.

A recent report revealed that Chicago has spoken to the Washington Wizards about the No. 1 pick, which would provide the Bulls with the opportunity to nab BYU standout AJ Dybantsa. But would it be worth it for Chicago?

The Bulls would definitely have to give up both of their first-round draft choices and possibly more for the chance to trade up and take Dybantsa, and for a team with as many holes as Chicago, such a venture would be risky.

G.C. Bellchamber of Pippen Ain’t Easy isn’t so confident it would be the best move for the Bulls.

Bellchamber feels Chicago is in a strong enough position as is and doesn’t need to try and go for the Dybantsa home run next month.

“They’re in possession of all of their future first-round picks, and they already have a budding young star on their roster in Matas Buzelis. Outside of that, though, they need major help,” Bellchamber wrote. “The fourth and the 15th overall selections should be able to provide that. Even at fourth overall, Chicago should be able to nab one of Cameron Boozer or Caleb Wilson.”

Bellchamber also feels that the Bulls should be able to get a nice player at No. 15, as well.

“This draft class is deep enough, moreover, that the 15th overall pick could also yield an impressive talent. Chicago has been linked to players like Jayden Quaintance, Cameron Carr, Morez Johnson Jr., and even Dailyn Swain in that range,” he added.

The idea of moving up for Dybantsa is definitely tantalizing. After all, he just averaged 25.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game during his lone season at BYU, and his ceiling as a defender is also considered fairly high. But is he really that much better of a prospect than Wilson?

It stands to reason that Wilson could end up being the best two-way talent in this class, and again, the Bulls would also have the ability to net a decent piece with their second first-round draft pick if they hold firm.
