Chicago White Sox have 2 players in top 50 prospects list

The Chicago White Sox have been doing well at promoting prospects this season. They have one of the better farm systems in MLB, and continue to have talent through their minor league system. There was a new ranking update for the prospects and the White Sox should be excited. Let’s take a look at the list and where some Chicago players wound up.

Braden Montgomery is the 30th-ranked prospect

The Athletic’s Keith Law wrote a midseason top 50 prospect rankings list. It is important to note he  omits players currently in MLB. The White Sox have a pair of players on this list, including outfielder Braden Montgomery. He stays sitting at 30th place, the same spot from the preseason rankings. Below is what Law had to say about the White Sox outfielder prospect:

“Montgomery had some contact issues iun Double A to finish last year, returned there to start 2026, and mashed, hitting .313/.429/.606 for a month before the White Sox finally spared Southern League pitchers and moved him up to Triple A. He probably should stay in Triple A for a while, as the same contact issues have popped up and he still has some fine-tuning to do at the plate. He has at least 70 power, and his exit velocities have been very strong, with a peak EV of 114 in Triple A, and if he gets the ball in the air more, he’s going to hit 25-30 homers. Right now, it’s a lot of whiff, and a lot of balls hit on the ground, as he gets that lead elbow up and his swing flattens out. If he gets the ball in the air more, and can bring that 36 percent whiff rate down, there’s a ton of impact potential with the bat, along with plus defense in right field.”

Montgomery has been hiting at a respectable level in Triple-A Charlotte. He has a .233/.317/.384 slash line with two homers, seven RBI, 15 runs scored, and one stolen base in 19 games. There are certainy improvements needed before he is called up to the bigs, but he can certainly do so. The 2024 first-round pick has a lot of quality tools and has the ability to dominate the game.

The Chicago White Sox also have the 33rd-ranked prospect right now

The White Sox continue to find stars in their minor league system. Just a few spots below Montgomery is Caleb Bonemer at 33rd place. Bonemer jumped 11 spots, beginning the year at 44th place in the preseason rankings. Below is a snippet of what Law wrote about Bonemer thus far.

“Bonemer has already hit 15 homers this year, more than he did in all of 2025 (when he hit 12), although it has come at a cost of 31 percent strikeout rate that’s backed up by a 34 percent whiff rate – that is, he swings and misses often enough to raise concerns about his ability to keep making contact against better pitching. His ball-strike recognition is very strong, but he’s whiffing on pitches in the zone more often this year than any big-leaguer except Munetaka Murakami. The power/patience combo should make Bonemer at least a regular, probably at third base, but he has the potential to be much more than that.”

Bonemer has been hitting at an incredible level this season for High-A Winston-Salem. He has a .995 OPS with 15 homers, 37 RBI, 41 runs scored, and six steals thus far. We are still seemingly a few years away from seeing Bonemer in the big leagues though. If he is able to improve with his contact, he can be an everyday starter on the left side of the infield.
