Caitlin Clark’s decision in Fever loss draws support from Stephanie White
The Dallas Wings handed the Indiana Fever a 107-104 opening-day loss. Caitlin Clark played a solid game with 20 points, five rebounds and seven assists. However, she struggled from the field, converting just seven of her 18 attempts.
Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 30 points and four assists, while Aliyah Boston contributed 23 points and four rebounds. Despite their production, the Wings performed more efficiently and maintained steady defense.
The Fever entered the season with a lot of hype surrounding them. Experts consider the Stephanie White-coached team one of the title contenders, which made Saturday’s loss more surprising. The franchise added veterans Monique Billings, Myisha Hines-Allen and Tyasha Harris, along with rookie Raven Johnson to bolster the roster.

Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White on Caitlin Clark’s end-game decision
Indiana had a chance to force overtime with less than 10 seconds left in the game. Clark, however, missed a potential game-tying three-pointer from 32 feet out. White shared her thoughts about the play, stressing that she liked her shot selection.
“I think we got some really good looks,” White said. “We practice situations all the time. There are times when you don’t want the defense to be able to set. … But we got some really good looks. I mean that’s exactly what we wanted to get.”
The Fever had another opportunity to tie the game after Clark’s botched three. Paige Bueckers missed two free throws on the opposite end, giving Indiana one final chance. Mitchell, however, missed her three-pointer from the left wing in the final possession.
White made it clar that she is backing Clark and Mitchell 100% despite their failed attempts to extend the game.
The Fever will play their next two games in three days. They will have the opportunity to bounce back and own a winning record after losing their first game. Clark will aim to have more efficient outings and set up teammates for easy baskets.
Indiana will face the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday before clashing with the Washington Mystics on Friday.
