Cubs depth piece now part of MLB’s most dangerous team
The Chicago Cubs have already been tested heavily by injuries to their pitching staff this season. From Opening Day starter Matthew Boyd, to rising ace Cade Horton, closer Daniel Palencia, and several others along the way, Chicago’s pitching depth has been stretched thin early in the year as the organization continues searching for healthy reinforcements.
One player who briefly appeared with the Cubs earlier in April was left-handed reliever Charlie Barnes. He tossed three innings against the Philadelphia Phillies on April 13, allowing three earned runs during the outing. After being shuffled between the major and minor leagues in the weeks that followed, Barnes was eventually designated for assignment, where the Los Angeles Dodgers quickly claimed him.

Interestingly, the injury parallels between the Cubs and Dodgers are very real, yet both teams continue finding ways to win games. While Chicago has emerged as arguably the hottest team in baseball, coming off back-to-back 10-game winning streaks and tied with the Braves for the league’s best record at 27-13, the Dodgers still loom as perhaps their biggest competition, not only because of their talent, but because they are chasing a third straight World Series title and have a loaded roster.
