The Dallas Wings and Indiana Fever are gearing up for their regular-season opener on Saturday after contrasting results in 2025. Indiana advanced to the second round of the playoffs, while Dallas finished the campaign tied for the worst record in the WNBA.

Both teams strengthened their rosters in the offseason with key additions. The Wings signed veterans like Jessica Shepard and Alanna Smith. They also selected Azzi Fudd at No. 1 in the draft.

The Fever, on the other hand, added Monique Billings, Tyasha Harris and Myisha Hines-Allen in free agency.

Dallas will pair 2025 Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers with Fudd, her former college teammate. The team hopes to make a big leap this upcoming season and potentially return to the playoffs after three years.

WNBA: Dallas Wings make roster cuts ahead of Indiana Fever game

The Wings announced on Tuesday that they waived Rayah Marshall, Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, Amy Okonkwo, Grace Berger, Lindsay Allen and Costanza Verona. They finalized their roster five days before facing the Fever on the road to begin their season.

Dallas’ roster moves ahead of the regular season are not expected to have a major impact on their campaign. The front office is merely cutting down the lineup in preparation for the new season. Nevertheless, it’s bad news for the seven players who have been cut and will need to find new teams.

Bueckers is expected to be the focal point of the team’s offense once again. However, she won’t have to do all the heavy lifting alone. Fudd had a strong 2025 collegiate season with the UConn Huskies and has a chance to prove that she deserves to be this year’s top pick.

Dallas head coach Jose Fernandez will also rely on Arike Ogunbowale to provide veteran leadership. The franchise signed the four-time All-Star to a seven-figure, multiyear deal on April 10.

Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark has fully recovered from her groin injury last season and is ready to lead Indiana. Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell and Sophie Cunningham understand their roles well and will provide ample support. The Fever are one of the title favorites, but their chances of winning it all in 2026 will depend on the health of their stars.
