Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham

Paige Bueckers dominated during the Dallas Wings’ season opener on Saturday against Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever. She scored 20 points on 8-for-10 shooting, along with three rebounds and four assists.

The 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year teamed up with Arike Ogunbowale and Odyssey Sims to combine for 62 points and hit six three-pointers. Their impressive play led the Wings to secure a 107-104 win to open their campaign on a high note.

Dallas finished tied for the worst record in the league in the 2025 season. The team aims to bounce back strong and potentially make the playoffs for the first time since 2023. Bueckers is expected to lead the charge and build on her strong rookie season. The Wings added veterans and No. 1 pick Azzi Fudd in the offseason to bolster their roster.

Indiana Fever: Paige Bueckers hits Sophie Cunningham with ‘too small’ celly

Bueckers’ dominant performance included a highlight play in the third quarter. She attacked Cunningham’s defense with 4:12 remaining, sending the Fever star to the floor.

The 6-foot guard celebrated “too small” using her fingers after making the basket.

Bueckers showed no mercy to Cunningham. After forcing her way to the basket, the Wings star hit Cunningham with a savage celebration. All the Indiana guard could do was walk away and head to the opposite end of the court.

Five Dallas players scored in double digits. The team also showed great ball movement, finding open players for easy shots, and registered 26 assists. The Wings sent a strong message to the league with their performance against the preseason favorites that they will compete this year.

Bueckers and company will play their next two games in three days. They will face Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday, followed by a matchup against the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday.

Cunningham and the Fever, on  the other hand, get four full days of rest. They will look to score their first win of the season on Wednesday in a road matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks.
