Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White

The Indiana Fever dominated the Nigerian national team on Sunday at Gaindbridge Fieldhouse 105-57. Head coach Stephanie White fielded 14 players and gave them all ample playing time.

Kelsey Mitchell scored a game-high 17 points in 14 minutes. Damiris Dantas led the bench scoring with 16 points, including four three-pointers, along with five rebounds and three assists, while Makayla Timpson contributed 12 points. The Fever took a 41-point halftime lead and rested their starters for the entire second half.

Indiana recorded a wire-to-wire victory, finishing its preseason with a 2-1 record. It won 109-91 over the New York Liberty on Sunday, but lost 95-80 to the Dallas Wings on Thursday. The Fever will enter their regular-season opener on May 9 against the Wings full of confidence and ready to start their championship quest.

Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White gives positive update on Monique Billings

Monique Billings started for Indiana. However, she only played six minutes as she tweaked her ankle in the second quarter. The team ruled out the veteran forward for the remainder of the game.

White provided an update about Billings’ injury during her postgame availability. The head coach shared that the 30-year-old said she was “fine,” but the team will take a precautionary approach.

“We have an opportunity, as with most ankle tweaks, to reevaluate tomorrow and see where she is,” White said, via Chloe Peterson of the Indianapolis Star.

The Fever signed Billings as a free agent on April 11. They expect her to be a key part of the rotation in the upcoming season. The 6-foot-4 forward brings a lot of experience to the table, having played for four WNBA teams since she entered the league via the 2018 draft.

Indiana has five days before it starts its regular season, and it doesn’t appear like Billings’ injury is serious. The team should issue more updates in the coming days.
