That production might make Martin a logical trade candidate on paper. However, here’s a closer look at why he should not be available. At 29 years old, Martin has just over a year of MLB service time and won’t reach arbitration eligibility until the 2028 season. That gives the Chicago White Sox a cost-controlled, affordable arm for at least the next few years. Given his current performance, he also has the potential to develop into a stabilizing presence atop a rotation that still features plenty of young, developing talent on the horizon. That’s why the argument for keeping him outweighs the temptation to move him for assets right now. While his trade value is strong due to his team control, continuing success would only strengthen his long-term worth, even with fewer years remaining later on. For Chicago, the priority should be retaining productive pitching when it’s available, making Martin a key piece to keep in-house, regardless of how the 2026 season ultimately unfolds.
