Chicago Bears: Illinois governor releases statement following Indiana stadium decision
It has really been a roller coaster week for fans of the Chicago Bears. Earlier this week, it was revealed that starting quarterback Caleb Williams would be on the cover of this year’s Madden video game. He is the first Bears player ever chosen to be on the cover, and was given the highest Madden rating ever for a Bears quarterback.
As positive as that made fans feel, though, the recent news about the team’s new stadium quickly ruined the vibe. On Friday, it was announced that the organization’s board of directors had decided to move forward with constructing a new stadium for the Bears outside of Chicago. Hammond, Indiana is the location they have selected.

After the Bears organization announced its intention to move forward with their move to Hammond, Indiana, JB Pritzker, the Governor of Illinois, had his office release the following statement:
“The Bears have built a storied legacy in Illinois for over 100 years but have spent the last six years, and especially the last few months, shifting their position on a stadium location. That has hindered their progress. Today appears to be another instance of that after Illinois leaders have been working with the Bears in good faith. Governor Pritzker has always been clear that he wants the Bears to stay in Illinois and still remains open to a sensible solution that protects taxpayers.”
To be clear, the Bears moving to Hammond is not quite a done deal yet, but it certainly seems like that is what will end up happening. It just does not seem like the team and state are going to be able to reach an agreement on tax breaks and other funding decisions.
