Fever coach Stephanie White’s honest admission on Caitlin Clark spat
One of the biggest takeaways from the Indiana Fever’s 100-84 loss to the Portland on Fire was the bench incident involving Caitlin Clark and Stephanie White.
At one point in the game, with the Fever down big, White was seen having an intense conversation with Clark during a timeout. Being the competitor that she is, the Fever superstar did not back down. Clark also had a lot to say, resulting in what seemed like a heated exchange between player and coach.
The good news is that there wasn’t really much to it. Both Clark and White cleared the air during practice on Monday. Speaking in separate interviews, both Clark and White explained that it was nothing more than an in-game conversation that got a bit intense.

Naturally, the first question White faced during Monday’s practice was about the heated exchange with her superstar guard. The veteran coach responded candidly, admitting that she was challenging Clark in the moment.
“I think what happened in that moment is I was challenging a player,” White told reporters. It’s coaching. That’s what it is.
“I don’t often think it becomes an issue if you’re watching it in men’s sports most of the time.”
White then spoke openly about how things stand between herself and Clark. The former WNBA Coach of the Year made it abundantly clear that they are in a good place.
“My relationship with Caitlin is great,” White stated. “I love Caitlin. I ride with her. We have a great relationship.
“I think the narrative of people trying to make it something that it’s not is just taking sensationalism and trying to get some clicks and all the other stuff.
“She wants to be coached. I want her to help me be a better coach. We’re both competitive. We’re both stubborn. We’re more alike than different. Hopefully, we continue to bring the best out of each other.”
This likely won’t be the last time White and Clark will have heated moments during games. However, the fact that they can quickly move on from such minor spats speaks volumes about their relationship. And this is nothing but beneficial for the Fever.
