Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is the cover athlete for the latest edition of EA Sports’ Madden NFL. He became the first player in franchise history to appear on the cover of the iconic football video game. Wide receiver Rome Odunze reacted to the historic news with a strong message for his teammate.
Williams landed on the Madden NFL 27 cover following a breakout 2025 season that helped revive the Bears. The 24-year-old quarterback led Chicago to its first NFC North title since 2018 and its first playoff victory since 2011.
He also earned Bears Offensive Player of the Year honors after setting a franchise record with 3,942 passing yards.
Rome Odunze Reacts to Caleb Williams’ Historic Madden NFL 27 Cover Selection
On Wednesday, Odunze shared an Instagram story showing a photo from the recent EA Sports Opening Drive event in Chicago.
The image showed the two teammates alongside former quarterback Cam Newton and producer Omari Collins during the cover reveal celebration.
“Congrats to @ayeeecaleb on the #Madden27 cover. First Bear ever on an @eamaddennfl cover. That’s history,” the 23-year-old wide receiver wrote on the photo.
Williams’ selection marked another milestone in a career defined by ambitious goals. Before the NFL, he dreamed of winning the Heisman Trophy and becoming the No. 1 overall pick.
He also wanted to appear on the cover of the popular football video game. The Madden cover helped him accomplish that third goal.
EA Sports will release Madden NFL 27 worldwide on Aug. 13. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. It will feature two cover designs showcasing the star quarterback’s on-field achievements and personal style.
The standard edition captures Williams’ airborne jump pass to Odunze during Chicago’s overtime playoff victory over the Green Bay Packers. The image draws inspiration from NBA legend Michael Jordan’s iconic “Jumpman” photo.
The deluxe edition features his signature “Iceman” pose, where he crosses his arms over his chest as if shivering. The artwork also showcases his custom-painted nail set, a first for an NFL cover athlete.
Odunze’s gesture reflects the strong bond developing between the Bears’ young offensive leaders ahead of the new season. This camaraderie helped Chicago end its playoff drought in 2025. It will also be crucial to the Bears’ Super Bowl hopes this year.
